What is needed to get ZDP sharp again?

Is it even doable with just the medium and fine stones that come with the sharpmaker?

I can get my ZDP's paper cutting sharp with the standard Sharpmaker rods but just can't get to that hair popping level. Maybe the UF rods would work. Personally I've got UF ceramic rods in a near 30 year old Buck sharpener that do the job so I imagine the Sharpmaker UF will give the same result. Just speculation though since I've never used them. YMMV

I don't have a sharpmaker, but I am considering it now.

Will the included rods + the ultra fine rods do the job?

The white rods are really for honing. Get it sharp using the gray rods, then a

couple passes on the white. You won't have any problems with angles. Just remember there are two angles or bevels. If you get a Sharpmaker you will learn all about them.

Should I go for 30 or 40 degrees? I see Sal says 30 but I have to ask if it makes a big difference.

The rods seem to get clogged with metal very quickly. How many passes should I do before I clean them?
