What is size is your primary fixed blade for the woods?

I use the ESEE 5 and couple it with the ESEE 3 for outdoor pursuits. I love it and haven't even considered changing the loadout since I started doing that.

I like to carry a different combination of knives, depending on what I'm up to. Short walks are usually taken with a Mora, and a medium-size folder. Overnights generally call for my saw and/or camp axe in addition to the Mora but I've been known to bring along whatever I feel like playing with or trying out. I sometimes swap out the axe/saw with my MMHW DV8, shown here with my Mora:

sak farmer, F1 and estwing hatchet for car / family camping, but I've done fine backpacking with just a folder over the years. day hikes will be a spyderco pm, farmer, or F1 depending on where, time of year, etc. I'm contemplating a machete or big chopper just for fun.

My primary choices are either my Mcnees "Macabre", a Model 1-5 from Matt Caldwell, or my Browning Backwoods Camp Cutter. Of course a Buck 119 or RAT-7 are always good choices, though some would call the Rat7 a large blade.

This Macabre features a 6-1/8 inch blade.

Obviously the 1-5 has a 5 inch blade.

The Browning has a 6-1/2 inch blade

ESEE-4 for me. Don't care for 3" blades unless concealment demands it. I love the ESEE-6 but, generally, I find it's more knife than I need and not worth carrying.

Usually carry my Basic 11, with a CABS and MUCK attached to the baldric rig. Whole package feels like it weighs less than my KZII.

Last time I went on an overnight canoe trip, I tool my BAD and SarQ. The SarQ did in a pinch, but the B11 would have been better. I did not bring them specifically because the B11, CABS and MUCK are sporting leather pants, I made, and the SARQ and the BAD have kydex and leather.

Buck 119 is my most carried & used, everything else is for fun & bragging rights.
Yep, same here. My 119's 5" clip point blade is perfect, which sometimes bums me out because I have some other fancier (more expensive) knives that don't get as much use. :P
I pair it with a big chopper (SP10, W49) and a pocketknife (Buck 110, Case trapper, Al Mar Eagle, Queen Barlow, etc.), and that's all I need.

Traditional bushcraft wisdom in Sweden says that a knife should be around the width of your palm. In my own experience I find that I like this length best as well. Sometimes I divert from this and take my Bark River Aurora, it's a tad too long, but handles like a smaller knife. I usually carry a Fällkniven F1, (WM1 if I pack light) Mora No 2 or Lapin Puukko 90.

I sometimes bring a GB SFA and a saw if I build shelters or need to fell dead standing trees for log fires.
