Could anyone tel me what so great is about a Sebenza? Is it the workmanship, rarity, the used materials that warrant the stiff pricetag? I looked around for a Sebenza after reading thread after thread about the Sebenza, but was stunned by the price. Is this knife worth it's price or is it just a hype in the knife nut community?

Ill try to keep it short, because i could go on all day. But its the top quality material and the workmanship is totaly top notch. If you pick up a sebenza and look it over you notice everything is perfect. The blade lines up ,the handles are finished perfect, there are no metal shavings anywhere, I could go on and on and on...but ive collected knives for many many years and ive never seen perfection like i have in a sebenza..as for price i dont think it all that high..It costs 40 bucks to fill an suv gas tank today, so is 300.00 or so really all that bad for a knife you'll have for a life time.

This is the better answer I'm able to give you !!! ;)

Yes, the Sebenza worth the money. Everything is perfect with this knife : the materials, the construction, the design... it is a real pleasure to use my small Sebenza every day since 2000.

Before I buy it, I had the habit to sell my knives after 6 months. I always was very enthusiastic with my new knives, but after a few weeks, I realized there was something disappointing. I never had the same impression with the Sebenza. :D

As the Euro is stronger then the dollar it's a good time to buy, even better if you can get a used one, which will save you quite a bit.

Nope, it's all hype. They aren't all that rare, so I think Chris Reeve did some sort of mass hypnosis to get all these knife knuts to buy these 'gray t#rds' faster than CRK can make them. Mine was so ugly I had to send it to Hawaii. It came back looking like Swiss cheese, the blade polished and just a little bit duller than a scapel. Nice pattern on the TI also.

It also must be hypnosis to cause me to always have it on my belt even though the choice of fixed blades will change every few days. It is also the ONLY folder I own. Gotta be the hype to cause me not to look any farther for a folder. But, I'm funny that way. When I find exactly what I want, I stop right there.

Yes, they are worth every penny.

I'd much rather have a Ti Handled ATR myself, even if they were the same price.

They are excellent knives no doubt but for that amount of money I'd rather have a custom fixed blade. Or hell, a gun.

Not saying I'll absolutely never get one.

The Dreaded Sebenza Thread! :D

They aren't so expensive when you see what else goes for as much, nearly as much, or more. The field of custom and semi-custom knives has become much broader since Chris Reeve showed it could be done. But few of them even come close to his craftsmanship.

That's the reason you hear so much about Sebenzas. Very few others in its price range are worth talking about.

Thx for the reply's. I would like to stipulate that it is not my intention to put down CR or the Sebenza. I am just curious why they are so popular. The problem is that as i carry knives constantly both on and off the job, i am rather scared by the tought of losing a 300 $ knife. Because of the nature of my job (LEO) my knives are subject to a lot of abuse: climbing, crawling, fights, liquids (urine, paint, flammable liquids), jumping in an out vehicles, riots. So they should be sturdy, non threathening to the general public and my politicall correct boss, one- handers, capable as a last ditch lethal weapon, sharp, and should be replacable without having to take another mortgage. Thats why until now i alwast carried and used good factory knives (Spyderco's). I would like to buy a Sebenza but the tought off the cost sets me off. I don't collect knives NIB, every knife i buy sees action, and as a results gets scuffed and scratched.
thx for the quick and rather passionate replies

Stay Safe :D

sebenza imo are second to NONE...top quality for only 305.00 I to have had alot of other knives and none have come close to sebenza quality. absolute perfection.

The thought of losing it, yes, that is a toughie. Everything else you mentioned the Sebbie would take in stride. I took the clip off of mine (a loss waiting to happen IMO) and carry it in a very snug fitting belt pouch. For you I would suggest a pouch with a snap down top and even then if you are a very active LEO it may not be enough. It's a very valid concern.

life is short..get a sebenza, you wont be sorry. You wont lose it, it will be your best friend ..trust me get one ..you wont be sorry.

Maybe you should check out Strider Knives. The AR and GB are about the same price as a large Sebbie, and the SnG and SMF cost just a little more. Striders are very tough knives and their warranty is fantastic.

It's good to get a Sheb issue out there once and a while, it causes a great deal of replys.
If you can afford a Sheb, buy one. This many people cannot be wrong.
If I could, I would. Would not use it much, though, the cost of loosing it you see would prevent it.
For now, I will have to settle for a Spyderco or Benchmade.

The good thing about Sebenzas is if you carry one around there's a really good chance that if you run into someone else carring a knife you can tell them how much better your knife is. :p

I emphatically agree with everything previously said here about the virtues of the Seb. Personally, I've run the gamut of higher end customs in the >450-650 range and have seen only marginal differences in the levels of fit and finish. A Seb is 92% of a custom at 50% the price and you can service them at home. I've come full circle and carry a large reg Mayo'd Seb. as my edc.

Fit, finish, workmanship, materials, warranty, design.....Yes, they ARE worth every penny.

found one in a European shop (www.gatherwood.com) for a standard Sebenza Sebensa cr102 641.24 Euro (750$) without shipping!! way above my funds. Will have to wait until an affordable one floats around. And for all those who can pay it. Lucky Bastards ! :D

Have to agree, they are definitely worth it. The fit and finish is what does it for me. No other production knife and very, very few customs (that I have handled) can match the Sebenza in precision. Add to that the fact that CRK does it with almost 100% consistancy and you have a pretty impressive package. It isn't cheap by any means, but it is a good value in my oppinion.

I went without a Seb for a while, bought and carried a large number of customs which I still have. Recently traded into a well used small Sebenza though and it hasn't left my pocket since it arrived.

most knives start to loosen up after use and "fall apart" like the majority of BM's I had gone through. now I don't have to send my knives back to the manufacturer every 6 months to get fixed.

expensive=yes

but it should be the last 1 you ever need to buy
