What is so great about titanium frame locks?

Really? despite titanium being duller and less bright than steel and harder to bring to a mirrored polish?.....right.

Nothing to do with -

Titanium being more inert and highly corrosion resistant, quite important for frame locks with all the palm contact.
Having a high tensile strength & toughness,
A far higher strength to weight ratio than steel,
Having a warmer feel due to the lower thermal conductivity,
Ease of anodising.

I have to agree with you on this.

For some reason, I've gotten rid of every steel framelock knife I've had. I don't know why but they just don't feel as nice as titanium. Maybe I'm just spoiled though.

I do not have any steel or aluminum frame locks. All of mine are titanium. I'm a titanium snob, even wear titanium framed shades and tote a titanium Leatherman Charge. ;-)

It's a sickness that tends to spread. I need to get some ti shades pretty soon.

I do have titanium glasses, and they are a perfect metal for glasses frames. Nothing is worse than having your glasses get deformed over time, and the titanium frames mean that they will pretty much never deform unless I step on them. They also look really nice.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate titanium. I just feel like it can't be fully taken advantage of. Also, anodizing it is really completely for flash because unless it is anodized with a hard coat, all it does is make the metal more aesthetically pleasing.

Lastly, my favorite steel framelock (Leek) still doesn't have a spot of rust on it, blade or handle, after never actually having been treated or oiled. Since almost every other bead blasted knife I have had did start rusting, that proves that this one was steel done right. All you need a is a relatively low carbon steel and it will be fine.

I mean how can you resist beauties like these?

Pretty easily-those ALL look dull and boring to me, aside from the one that covers up the butt ugly titanium with some wood scales. Titanium really needs to be anodized to look attractive IMO.

higher strength to weight ratio but steel has a higher volume to strength ratio.

I have two all ti knives with the RIL. They look cool and all but as handle material I feel it is way too smooth and lacking in grip. I don't mind the RIL per se but I prefer a G-10 scale on one side like Strider do it.

Now micarta and G-10, that's some good stuff and generally speaking I prefer it on both sides of the knife.

won't scratch your fingers during pocket clip carry the way g-10 and textured plastic does (assuming it's smooth titanium), easier to clean the gunk off the handle after food prep, doesn't risk a lock-up in the open position due to sand and dirt, hardly a risk of failing to lock.

disadvantages: tighter detent and slower opening than most liners and compressions, slower closing, some complain of poor grip, heavier, pricier, some lock bar faces wear out fast especially with repeated flicking.

they now sell titanium wedding bands and those aren't anodized. can't say as much for g-10.

They may sell them, but I've never heard of anyone that has one...presumably, because they're butt ugly. Also, not sure your point-rings made for adults are pretty much always made out of metal. You can get cheap wedding rings made out of brass or probably steel for that matter too. You're not going to make a ring out of G10 just like you're not going to make a tire out of rubber, or a bullet out of platinum.

I have a titanium ring. It has a nice color between silver and steel. Weighs absolutely nothing. I might need to get it anodized, though.

You know tires are made out of rubber, right?

Umm, that was the point? Rings are made out of metal-of course nobody is going to make a G10 wedding ring(or Micarta, or granite), just like nobody is going to make a tire out of metal, or a tank out of plastic.

Obvious troll post, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel.

I like Ti frame locks mainly for the looks. They look fantastic and I am drawn to both the polished scales, such as on the wood inlayed Sebenza, and the bead blast scales, such as on the Sebenza 25.
The cutout portion of any frame lock doesn't exactly inspire confidence with me being that it is thinner than most liner locks, but if I am worried about lock strength I would go for an axis or triad lock any day.

Eta: I also have a Ti wedding band. It is so light and comfortable that I don't even feel it.

Typically, yes(and I'm referring to real tanks, not toy ones). Okay, there's probably some rap star out who has a vehicle with solid gold tires or something, but generally speaking, yes.

There lies the vast chasm between typical and an absolute statement.
