What is Spyderco Captain designed for?

To each his own I guess but I think it's awesome looking.

Agree. The more I look at it the more I like it. I think that if one carried it during outdoor activities, that many uses for the knife would present itself. However, for the price ($200 retail, approx. $125 on via the net) I only wish it was a lockback instead of liner lock and that they offered a combo blade model. For this knife, since its designer intended to use it as an all around "outdoors knife" for boating/hunting etc., that a partial serration would help with cutting of nylon line. I do like that it's in VG-10 and the scales are G-10 for a better grip.

Hmmm....I think I'm talking myself into getting one. Time will tell.

For those that think it's ugly, try another gander with the idea of function and form meeting to produce a knife that has several diverse applictions. That was my first thought when I saw it but no longer. It's starting to grow on me. Could even be considered a small survival knife or at least a very welcome companion to a larger fixed blade.

Isn't that a bandbreaker on the back of the blade? Looks like a jack of all trades master of none type knife to me. In this case I would also add serrations.

Edited because of my broken keyboard.
