I remember Cliff doing some work on this a while ago. I think he come up with the medium sharpmaker rods at about 1200 grit and the white fine ones at 2400. I would imagine the UF are around 4500, maybe higher. Thats just a guess, I havent used them.
The alumina particle size is 25 microns for all three grits. The firing process and carriers determine fine and medium. Ultra fine is processed from fine. Diamonds are 400 mesh.
Does that mean it is the distance between the alumina particles that matters? I don't quite understand how all three can be 25 µm? Or does the firing process change the particle size or the way it behaves?
I will freely admit I don't understand as much as I'd like to about this kind of thing.
(with some russian but it does not matter to see results).
Let me think on what you just sad and may be I'll have right questions to ask...
So far I did not notice big differentrce between Fine and Ultra Fine on several steels. However I did not notice difference between 6 micron and 3 micron diamond spray on CPM S90V, but for bulat(wootz/damascus steel) differentce was noticible and same for Fine and Ultra Fine. However 1 micron diamond spray meakes CPM S90V better.
So far I just collecting data but it is very far from making conclusions. I just know that it is quite exciting!
Thanks, Vassili.
P.S. I can not sleep becouse of your annoncement of ZDP-189 Delica and Caly - any news? Any way for backorder it?
OK abrazive particles size means not too much then. Only results on blade is important. Let say abrazive tooth - working part of particles - How big they are?
