Just wandering guys if any of you know anything about this stone wash method done on knives. They seem to be working very nicely on High Grade steels. Anybody know how it is done and who can do this for me for some of my busses I own. I've a BM dejavoo that has this stone wash. I really love it and resists rust pretty well. Take a look at the pic attached - a fine example of a stone wash on a strider dagger from TNK.

Like a rock tumbler with ceramic rocks.

From what I understand about stonewashing is that its not an all-purpose solution to finishing a knife. In other words it doesnt eliminate the usual buffing and polishing that needs to happen to get a nice finish. The knife has to be satin finished first and then stonewashed. Otherwise any imperfections will show up regardless. In other words you cant just chuck a rough blade into a tumbler and expect it to be perfect when it comes out.

Most use a Vibratory Tumbler.
Different types of media include plastic, ceramic, Ceramilite, natural shell.
Soaps, polishes and other types of additives are included in the mix depending on what outcome is wanted.
This process removes "hard" lines from the object, polishes and adds some texture.

I haven't heard of any company using a rotary tumbler (rock polishing, blue jeans) for knives as it would allow the blades to hit each other too hard and often.

It's a great finish for user knives as it allows the scratches, dings and scuffs picked up by the blade from normal or harder use to blend in or be less obvious. Look closely or with a loupe to see the multitude of short 'scratches' going every which way.

Any of you guys know who does this finish. It would be great to have this done on knives at an affordable price.
