What is the absolute cheapest a Strider SnG could be? Sebenza, etc

Sure, there are the occasional high end knives that go for a steal but it does not seem to effect the market overall. I always advise folks to use the sh!t outta their high end knives since there rarely is much of a "pre loved" price difference between one with a couple light marks and one fairly dinged up. "Used" seems to be "used" either way. At worst one can see what the knife is really all about with maybe a $30 difference. I'm by no means rolling in dough... but when I wake up on a weekend AM, I piss $30. I can certainly afford that much enjoyment out of this hobby that I really enjoy!

BUT!... If one of these three maker's knives were sub par functional, there being ZERO mods or "pimping," I would only be comfortable purchasing the Strider. CRK does not offer this kind of warranty (at least on paper) and in my personal efforts to contact Hinderer I have never received any replies or response. Even still, the sellers reputation has to be fully trustworthy.

Misread your post originally. I'm usually willing to pay the minimal price difference between the used and new knife and go for the new one.

I'll throw out a twist. With a knife by a "name" maker, the "name" is a portion of the value. If the "name" is besmirched/damaged deeply enough, I would argue that that the "named" knife's value could plummet below the value of the raw materials in the knife.

(I am not implying anything about any of the makers named in this thread.)

Is there a good example of this happening in the past? I know Microtech (not a name maker though) has had some serious drama in their history, past and present, and it has not hurt the value of their knives at all.

Would the resale price suffer or increase if a maker went out of business? One one hand you no longer have any warranty support, on the other hand you have a knife that will never be made again which may drive up demand and price.

I'd rather not go there...not doubt it would rub somebody the wrong way. But there have been makers whose actions have hurt the value of their knives. The loss in value was not as a result of a change in materials or design...just in the impression people have about the maker.

(My OJ Simpson Kitchen Knife collection...did I take a loss on that! Youch!)

Have they gone down to zero in value? No. Could that, in theory, happen? Yes. And a knife whose value is significantly dependent on the reputation of an individual might be more susceptible to something like that happening.

Just something to think about.
