what is the benefit of a SNG tanto blade over a drop point?

I've owned a drop point SnG and I can tell you that the blade tip is already really thick and strong. Tanto just makes it a pain in the ass to sharpen.

I plan on grinding my tanto a little sharper some day.

Looks like the RW1 will be my next Strider

I cut stuff with my knives so I would take the drop point. The tanto blade is great for stabbing car doors, but I have not been insulted by a car door recently and therefore have not needed to kill one.

Other than skinning, I have never found a down side to the Tanto. I really like them a lot. It works ok for skinning but not as well as a drop point.

Some people like the way Am. Tantos look, some people prefer drop point. That's really all there is to it!

Strider's knives are way too expensive for me, but as others have noted, the tantos generally have stronger tips. This is pointless if the blade is just one thick prybar from bow to stern. Still, the blades are straight and some people find them attractive. (I like all blade configurations with the exception of chisel ground blades, which often are sharpened on the wrong side—that is, if you're right handed—for purely cosmetic reasons.)

Combat knives, in my opinion, need not be made of el primo steels unless you just like the looks. Lots of people like tantos and many don't. Yet like any knife, they'll cut and cut well. Just a matter of taste.

a knapped flint rock will work "ok" for skinning too lol.

i dont want to even think about skinning a deer with a CG tanto lol.
