Cant really tell from pics... how does Busse papper handles compare to canvas and g10?... Any preference for hard use?

thx

I love my res-c busses but I definitely do not agree on it being the best "hard use" handle material. My brother wacked his right at the top where the handle meets the spine with a baton and split it. I have no doubt in my mind that I could repeat that mistake with the same results. Of course it was replaced with busses amazing warranty. I can pomel my g-10 handle with a hardwood baton all I want and not worry about any kind of damage. In my opinion that makes the composites a better choice for all around hard use. Don't get me wrong though. My basic 10 doesn't leave my belt when I'm in the woods.

I vote canvas micrarta. Have linen, canvas, and have had G10 and paper micarta. The canvas is my favorite for feel and seems the grippiest, especially when wet. I think the linen looks a little better when finished smoothly, and is almost as grippy as the canvas.

canvas of those choices and another vote for rubber.

Handle fasteners on micarta/G10 have been known to fail with enough pounding, and Res-C may suffer splits or cuts with enough high impacts and may deform or melt if left too near a fire. But instances of failure are rare in either case and then only under extreme circumstances. Since both are 100% guaranteed by the Busse warranty, use what you prefer and you'll likely never experience a problem. If you do, Busse will take care of it for you.

Canvas and G10 should be able to handle more than any user could reasonably dish out.

res-c would be most comfortable for hard use, but micarta/g-10 handles are tough as nails. The warranty will take care of any failures...if there will be any.

It's really a personal preference thing. I haven't used any paper handles hard so I can't compare them. I've used canvas, G10 and ResC. For chopping I prefer canvas or ResC. G10 is third because it's hard, slick and cold to me. I assume paper would be the same way but I don't know.

ditto what JD said. g10 is hard, slick and cold. If its not slick, then its rough, like on Strider legos. And the thing with Busse's at least to me, is that all of them are part gentleman, part savage, in some varying ratio. Micarta has an old-world organic texture. g10 is modern and feels like plastic...just subtracts from the savage...

Canvas, linen Micarta held on by a combination of a two part adhesive and the two piece Stainless Chicago Screws makes for the grippiest most shock resistant, simple fire/heat resistant, hand friendly handle materials.

If, you want to do stupid crap with your knife, the above will stand you in best stead within the balance of durability and comfort of use.

Less Stupid crap and the Ferrule or hole type of fastener is next.

If you find the C-resiprene comfortable, it is the most user friendly and if you avoid doing stupid crap you will be happy with it for a very long time. (14 years so far for me and those dozen or so people I have given those to)

Black Paper Micarta isn't as strong as canvas micarta or G10 - BP is actually the only Busse handle material I've damaged (on a RMDx).

How do I care for the Black paper micarta? I just received an older SHe (2000-2003) and the handles are kind of turning brownish.

Any advice??

put little mineral oil on them and it will go away.

Old and dry black paper can turn green. Reminds me a little of copper patina.

Black paper is one of the best IMO. Love it.

As far as the best...I like the old green linen:)

Black Paper by far the Classiest hooked up with Satin finish "Tuxedo"....As Trevor stated Old Green Linen and Black Canvas close second....Res-C user friendly
but hand shaped black canvas very comfortable for a long day of wood destruction:thumbup:

The new Res-C handles on the soon to be released Basic 8 (on the .275" HOG weight versions) would be the BEST Hard Use handle/combo ever released from the shop!!!
