what is the best everyday carry knife

Leatherman has a line of pocketknives that include a few tools, including a flat blade driver on one model.

Sorry to be late to the party! Fun topic. As with everyone else, my EDC choices reflect my passions and needs . . .

CRK Sebenza, large regular model -- almost everyday
CRK mnandi -- instead of or in addition to the Sebbie for the dressier/discrete occasion
Victorinox Deluxe Tinkerer -- almost everyday
Victorinox SwissTool -- on my belt on heavy chore days, and in my briefcase/backpack on the other days.

I may change up the larger knife for EDC (Byrd Meadowlark FRN), but usually this is what I carry - in my pants pockets. My EDC choice is something inexpensive (poor student!), but something that is robust. The SAK Cadet is always carried and recommended. I like the alox scaled SAKs - slimmer than the red scales.

Hawk D.O.G / Wenger SAK /Gerber MultiTool

This is my typical EDC.

On a shoot the list grows to include:

18" KhuKuri / Becker Bk2 / Boker AK-47

If you insist on prying paint cans , add an Atwood prybaby to the mix . There are a lot of nice mid sized EDC's , Benchmade and Spyderco ranking high amongst them .

For me the best everyday carry knife is first off comfortable and easy to carry in the closed position in or on the pocket depending on the method of carry you prefer. This is of utmost importance since it will be closed and riding there in or on your pocket or hip most of the time until its needed for a job. I look for thickness vs thinness, sharp edges vs rounded rough surfaces that will tear up pants faster vs smooth less aggressive ones, and how deep or how high it sits on the pocket if it has a clip and go for the ones I see as better for my tastes for long term carry.

Second, the knife must be light weight but of a foot print that fills the hand nice and secure with plenty of room for all my fingers.

Third, it has to be comfortable in more than one grip.

Fourth it has to have a blade steel I like but not necessarily stainless, just something I know won't need sharpened after each time I cut a dog food bag opened and yet is easy enough to touch up to a nice biting edge when the time comes preferably.

And lastly it must be replaceable in the event that I lose it.

Less important to me is the things like resale value, clip mounting position for tip up or down carry since I can easily change that and status or price so long as it provides what I look for. I have seen many knives that flew below my radar until someone on these forums asked me to work on it. I love seeing these when they come along. The CRKT S2 and the Spyderco R2 were two such knives for me. Both of these are great values and super knives that I would still be unaware of had it not been for these forums and members here asking me to mod them. For the money they meet all my needs for an EDC too.

"what is the best everyday carry knife?"

The one you have on you when you need it.
There is no other best. Only you can decide what appeals to you.

Good luck in your quest.

"What is the best EDC knife?" That is an impossible question for any of US to answer for YOU! What may be the best knife for me, isn't necessarily going to be the best for you. We all each have our own taste in knives, some may be the same, some may not be. So, let us know what knife you find that suits your needs.

Buck Mayo 172, based on Tom Mayo's TNT, is a very nice cutter that can do well in office environments. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of manufacturing.

yeaa lol i have already purchased a mini manix it really is a great quality knife lol it just feels so right in my hanf has everthink and best of all it has cpm-s30v well at lease im under the impression itss good

hahaah im luvvin it 2 i dunno y pp complain about sharping it itss pretti easy buh what about the bg-42

For the last 5 or 6 years I switched form a large SAK to a mid sized folder (3.5 to 4") and a small SAK. I still carry my Ritter Grip, BM710, and Endura, etc. part of the time but over the last few months I've started to carry smaller folders more often. I find them more comfortable to carry, they stay in my pocket better, and are easier to handle for smaller jobs like pealing fruit, opening a letter, etc. I've become very partial to the BM Mini-Griptilian in a plain blade and the new Kershaw Leek in S30V and G-10 scales. Both are great EDC knives (Delica is another but already mentioned), especially if you add one of the small SAK's to your pocket. I also keep a large Cold Steel fixed blade in the SUV for camping or other unexpected situations.

Good Luck

PS. And the Mini Maxim as already mentioned.

I would go with a Spyderco delica 4 , or minimanix . They are structurally impecable , and you wont go wrong . As your tastes get more refined , and you get a chance to handle other stuff , you may decide to upgrade . In the mean time you will have good basic kit that will serve you well .
