What is the best kind of lock on a folding knife?

Switch to decaf bro.

You and Veletrius were the ones talking about slippies first and I wouldn't have weighed in had you not revealed your lack of skill and knowledge by going on about needing to close slippies with 2 hands. I've been polite up till now not holding your nose in it. But if you don't want people to discuss slippies in a thread, don't make ignorant, ill informed comments about them, otherwise people like me might decide to correct you in front of everybody.

Sheesh.

Per Paul Pohlmann the best lock on a folding knife is one that locks open and locks closed and can be used w/o disengaging the lock while in the open position. That would be the Paul lock on Gerber and Lone Wolf folders. He designed the locking mechanism to meet that specific design criteria, "lock open/lock closed." The Balisong latch lock also fits the bill. Not many more.

Best as in "won't close on your fingers" ? Balisong.

Best as in "easiest to close when you're done cutting stuff" ? No lock at all.

That's my opinion on best locks. I find it easiest to close a non-locker when I'm done cutting stuff. Balisong for me is the strongest.

I indeed use the "arm-and-a-leg" method for closing a slipjoint. Balisong only requires me one hand.

No need to start an argument, folks. The lad asked for opinions...that be mine right there.

As others have stated prior, I agree it is a matter of personal preference, and how it will be used.

For my intended use & based on my personal opinion & experience, my lock preferences:

Triad Lock - Pro - super strong lock up & reliability. Ambi.
Con - more pressure to release lock, not as smooth like an axis lock,
Axis Lock - Pro - ease of use, super smooth & refined. Ambi. Made in USA
Con - reliability
