What is the best knife magazine?

Being a retired librarian, I have all 3 of the major pubs. Also, being a professional book reviewer for Library journal, I have developed a critical and objective sense.Usually when a new challenger appears, his first few issues are dynamite. The original issues of Fighting Knives and Tactical Knives are classics. They called a spade a spade. They told you who made the best knives and which knives were junk. Once established, they became just like the rest. If I was to compare them today, Blade is the most powerful; has the most advertising, and as a result, the major manufacturers hit them first with their new wares. I like Tactical Knives, although they are not as forceful in their critical views as they were when they came out. It is difficult to make a monthly mag, as Mike has found out. Buy all 3. They keep us dealers and makers in business.

Don't forget to pack a few pieces of good old reference material. It's amazing what I'm reminded of when I take the time to re-read Levine's guide or one of Sargent's books. They tend to take up more room than a magazine but sure do make the time pass.

Yep, can't go wrong with anything of Bernard Levine's. Definitely worth every cent you spend. If you go to the bookstore, you can get Levine's guide and a copy of each of the periodicals listed above.

Grab me a double tall mocha while you are there.

They are all propaganda for the advertisers but without them you can't keep up with the industry. I had been subscribing to all 4 but dropped 2 since there is more info on line for free. As a matter of fact I seem to learn of new products here a lot quicker then on hard copy magazines.Did anyone see the picture of Anthony Lombardo in one of Gunners ghillie suits? thats the kind of stuff you don't find on here LOL.

Buy the one that's doing a piece on whatever knife interests you that day. That way, you'll be forced to buy that knife, because there are no bad printed reviews anymore. You're sure to get the best knife, the one you want, 'cuz the mag-man says so...

A few people have pointed out, correctly IMHO, that all the major magazines are basically becoming cheerleaders [ don't get me wrong: there is a place for cheerleaders]and an honest and biting criticism is a rarity. I think TK too is pretty toothless lately in this regard. KI sometimes will criticise in a subtle way. Way too subtle, for my taste. You have to come here for an honest opinion that calls a spade a spade, and even here there's been pressure to be namby pamby. Or am I just becoming an old curmudgeon?

Knife World and Tactical Knives are the best. I've been subscribing to Blade for years and it has gotten worse and worse. More poof, less content. I almost didn't subscribe again this year, and only did so because Ed Fowlers April Fools article on the Lewis and Clark blade was so good.

If I could only have one? Tactical Knives.

BTW; Blade's April fools joke was a scream, I bought it hook, line and sinker. What a rube!

IMO Tactical Knives and Blade... They are nice source of pictures and knife related stories...

But for reviews??? I am not so sure. All knives reviewed there will shave hair after chopping through tens of 2x4s

Na, every once in a while a blade will require, "one or two passes" on a stick or a stone to be incredibly wonderful again
