What is the best/your favorite Swiss Army Knife?

I saved up and got a Huntsman when I was 12. I edc'd it for about 20 years and it served me well. It stays home on my desk most of the time now.

I have said this a few times on here but my first knife was a Boy Scout Vic Tinker when I was 9; given to me by my Dad. I love that knife, it has been well used, I still carry it every once in a while but it mostly has been retired so I don't loose it.

I also have a Vic Climber which I really like, I have had it for 3 or 4 years now, the scissors really are amazing. I am currently on the hunt for a black, blue or orange Alox Farmer, Cadet or Pioneer (no luck yet, hoping to get all 3 eventually, doesn't matter which color is which).

I am also planning on getting a huntsman and some type of Wenger in the near future. I really dig SAK's, I am never am without one.

I REALLY like the ALOX Farmer, but there's only one model that has everything I want in a feasible size--the Ranger, although the Huntsman is a close second.

Alright last 2 questions,

-what's the difference between the huntsman and the huntsman plus?
-are there any full size sak's with alox scales? The huntsman is sweet but I prefer the look of alox which it isn't offered in.

the spartan. main reason is the eye glasses screw driver that can b fit into the corkscrew.

I somehow ended up with that screwdriver which sits in my old econo Camper (Camper w/o tweezers or toothpick...it now resides in my bug out bag.)

Favorite is my Super Tinker. It's a good size and has a set of implements that fit most of my EDC needs. Pliers would be nice, but the Deluxe Tinker starts getting a bit too big. If I was going that size, I'd probably get a Leatherman PS4 instead...

The 2 that I carry with regularity are the Cybertool 29 and the Pioneer Rancher (basically a Pioneer/Soldier with a pruning blade in place of the canopener). 99% of the time it's the Cybertool. I don't need the extra tools that the 34 or the 41 offer because I already have them in the Leatherman PS4 on my keychain and the Charge in my backpack. The multi-bit driver of the Cybertool is probably the most useful tool I carry, even moreso than the various knives. Besides fixing my own things, I've "saved the day" for other people countless times because I had the right screwdriver in my pocket (usually the small Phillips to fix eye/sunglasses). Plus it has both a T8 and T10 Torx, one of which which should fit the pivot of almost all modern folding knives we carry. I even once took an entire Latin exam with the pen because stupidly I forgot a proper pen. And if you're a computer tinkerer, the driver just happens to be the exact size of the hex bolt screws that are so common.

Thanks for the help so far guys. I have narrowed it down to:

-Huntsman (black)
-Explorer (black)
-CyberTool 34 (translucent ruby)

I think I'm aiming towards the Explorer.

Obviously, of those three, I would recommend the Cybertool 34.

Plus models come with a mini-screwdriver that fits into the corkscrew, a stainles pin in the scale, and a pressurized pin that comes in the scale. Those are the only differences. Well, they cost a bit more too.

The "full sized" alox models are 93mm long, compared to 91mm for the cellidor models. There isn't a model comparable to the Huntsman in alox, since there are currently no 93mm alox models with scissors. The Farmer is as close as you'll get ... but no scissors. And the alox models all lack back tools (corkscrew, et al) and also don't have toothpicks or tweezers. On the plus side of the equation, they are more durable, have thicker blade stock, and usually firmer back springs. Plus the alox models look really classy and are built ridiculously well given their price points.

Same with me. I love the Climber and Super Tinker. But if I need pliers, the Leatherman PS4 or CS4 (I own the CS4) is simply a better mousetrap.

Day-to-day around town and in the office, I usually favor a Vic Huntsman, although I do keep a Vic Farmer handy to supplement my fixed blade when I head into the woods (I especially like having the awl on the end, not the middle).

That being said, I have become REALLY impressed with the discontinued Vic Safari Trooper as the PERFECT lightweight EDC folder that does just about everything I need it to do - larger blade, great saw, longer awl and longer corkscrew, longer textured nylon grip, and a lanyard hole that goes through the handle, not some little ring that sticks out. Hang one around your neck and you're set for just about anything. Only issue is finding one, but they're out there and still reasonable, especially considering their practical value.

I think I've come to a conclusion, Deluxe Tinker and Alox Farmer for me! I am going to try and find an onyx black scale for the tinker.

Alox Farmer or Electrician or Harvester

Great collection of saks rinos. What is the one second from the top left? That looks like a pretty ideal size. Is that what I should expect the deluxe tinker to be like size wise?

@jds1, that is exactly who i contacted with my order, i am still waiting for a response. i told him i want the deluxe tinker in blue saphire, a black alox pioneer and an onyx black scale for the deluxe tinker.

Rucksack. Large locking blade and enough extras to be useful while maintaining a slimmer profile.

Ive always been partial to the Alox soldier. Its a classic that continues to serve me in conjunction with my folder dayjour.

I really like the Fieldmaster, which is exactly the same as the Huntsman except that it replaces the corkscrew with a Phillips head screwdriver which is far more useful to me. If you can live without the Fieldmaster's saw then the Super Tinker is the way to go.

+1

I always carry a Super Tinker when around the house or in town. I switch to a Fieldmaster when in the woods to add the saw. These knives have just about all the tools that I commonly use scissors, blades for opening packages, toothpick, & tweezers, etc. I also prefer the Phillips head screwdriver over the corkscrew. The screw driver is a handy tool to have and I drink beer, have no need for a corkscrew !
