What is the Classic Tactical Folder?

There many tactical folders on the market, both production and custom. What knife would you say is the protypical tactical folding knife? If you want, name one for production knives and one for customs. My vote in production is the Benchmade AFCK and Spyderco Endura/Delica. In customs, it would be the Terzoula ATCF or Emerson CQC 6 or Carson Model 4. I know I only said to name one, but if I could decide, I wouldn't have posted this topic.

Production: the discontinued Benchmade Emerson 970/975 models

Custom: I'd have to side with Damon with my picks of the ATCF and Model 4

The Ernie Emerson CQC6. This is the knife that had the most impact on the market, IMHO. Walt

Production: "new" Emerson CQC7. I like the changes he made since the Benchmade version.

Custom: Emerson CQC6. The Blade That Began the Revolution. (by the way, if anyone wants to sell their old '6, let me know!)

The Terzuola ATCF is kinda the one that started it all, right? That's definitely the big grand daddy of classics! Many other makers made folders that brought the trend along, but the next major blip seems to have been Emerson's CQC-6.

In production knives, it was the joint release of Benchmade's AFCK and CQC-7 that really exploded the market.

Terzoula ATCF is probably the classic custom and the Benchmade CQC7 is the classic production tactical folder. The AFCK may be a close second but the CQC7 is the production folder that started the craze.

The Benchmade AFCK. You gotta love it, nearly 4" blade, good handle design, good steel (ATS-34 or M-2) and extremely fast to deploy. Pull it from your pocket with thumb pressed into Spyderco licensed hole, press finger to thumb as soon as pocket is cleared, slight downward snap while retaining finger to thumb pressure. Only the Emerson Commander will open faster. The AFCK is one of the classics.

Production: BM 970/975 models

Custom: Emerson CQC6, I feel that this model has defined the tactical folder more than the Terzuola models.

I would have to say (at least for me) the Benchmade 970 and 975. Those two got me started in the world of Non-utility folders.
As for customs....seems the first one I can recall having any influence was the CQC6.

Technically, I bethinks that the Emerson CQC6 wins the award for the classic tactical(purge my lips) folder.

I would, on the other hand, attest that the Benchmade AFCK (Gollnick, classically it would still be the "advanced folding COMBAT knife"

) fits the bill nicely.
