What is the coldest/warmest that you have camped in.

Spent alot of time at 29 Palms in the summer for 2 to 3 weeks at a pop, temps ran as high as 130.Did a stint of cold weather training in Bridgeport,Ca.Can't remember how cold it got(28 yrs ago),but your urine would freeze in a coffee can by the cot.

Doc- what is this F thing you write about?? Must be something from the old days, like glass paper;), or are you secretly an American??

The F thing is part of my cultural heritage. When I went to school, we learned the F thing. Later, when working, I used the F thing (still do to this day, as a matter of fact). Then along comes some dippy prime minister that decides to change a perfectly good working system to a different system, completely ignoring the fact that our largest trading partner, didn't. What a brain trust!

Secondly, "something from the old days?". I'm something from the old days :(, why should my temperatures be any different, whippersnapper? And what the heck is glass paper?

Thirdly, am I secretly an American? As of a day or two ago, tonym officially made me an honorary American, so bite me. :D

Maybe not quite as extreme as you, but I hate hot weather. When it's cold, you can always put more clothes on, and be comfortable, but when it's hot, you can take them all off, AND YOU'RE STILL HOT! Not to mention, when it's hot, there are also mosquitoes, deer flies, horse flies, black flies, noseeum's, black legged ticks, dog ticks, ............... well, you get the idea.

Oh, and did I mention too many people?

You can take summer and its attendant heat and ship it all off to Evolute.

P.S. you do know that 'cool' is a word that means good?

Doc

I always say that to my classmates!! That and if they pay me I'll take off my clothes, but they have to pay me more to put them back on.;) At least I'll be comfortable, even if they won't be.

P.S. Glass paper is apparently the forerunner to sandpaper, with glass as the abrasive medium.

Just FYI, Science Channel has been running a show called "Freezer to Furnace" concerning extreme climates and how they are measured. They went to the Libyan archives to see the actual c. 1922 log book of their 58C (136.4F) all-time high air temp. It was kind of an aberration---only 56C the day before!

They said the Russians have the record low air temp at -128.56F. That's a pretty monumental spread from the Libyan high when you think about it.

I shouldn't even bother posting after reading this thread. Some of you people are hardcore. My best is 20f with no fire in a large 4 man lean-to with a cheap 40f bag. I froze my azz off...

High would be probably mid 90's, again nothing hardcore. When it get's to be mid -late summer if I'm going out, it's to somewhere with water. Being able to jump in a cool natural body of water makes up for the heat IMO...
