What is the dumbest thing you have seen a non-knife person do with a blade?

This guy at work was given a leatherman Squirt as a Christmas gift. Every time he needs to open a box he takes it out, and proceeds to use the scissors, opened wide, like a knife to cut the box open...
He keeps doing it after I have shown him where the knife is on it ,,, twice!!

My brother had a non assisted smith and Wesson knife (this is why he uses assisted now) with its slick black scales with no grip goes to flick it open using finger and wrist and it flies out of his hand and embeds itself into the wall two inches from my younger brother who showed him how to flick it open

Resurrection up in here!

I had a BM Spike (blade looks like a PT Godfather/son) - very pointy, very thin. A very good friend, who owns knives, asked to see it... and proceeds to start stabbing a pillow on the floor. The concrete floor. This did not end well. Now I see those blades are considered a bit of a collector's item :(

Dang dude, that sucks! Sorry to hear that. Thanks for resurrecting this thread though, I'd never seen it before and I'm having a good chuckle at some of these stories! :D

Years ago, a friend snapped the tip off of my favorite little folder prying open a case of poker chips. This snub nose William Henry still gets a lot of use.

^some good chuckles and some extreme cringing.

Haha! Definitely some extreme cringing! This reinforces why I choose to cut things for people instead of handing them the knife. Just the other day at work, a new fella asked to borrow my knife. Just a few seconds before he did I saw him trying to remove very large staples from a box.........nope lol!

Handed a buddy my BK2 to baton some firewood. He decided to use his own knife has the hammer. I wanted to kick his ass but he is a blackbelt in karate so I forgave him instead. The knife still shows the marks on the spine.

Old-style Cold Steel Magnum Tanto (would cut falling plastic bag). Guy looking at it says "that's not sharp." and proceeds to run his thumb down the blade. He didn't even feel that he'd been cut until the blood hit the nerves. Set down the Tanto with a funny look on his face and disappeared into the night.

I gave a co worker a microtech last Xmas ( same size as a mudt but green blade and handle). Knife was mint I had it in my safe for over ten years (?) and thought I would pass it on to someone who would use/appreciate it
I inquired about the knife last time I saw him and he said " great knife, but I snapped the tip off prying off a hubcap".
He had spent 11 years in the coast guard and for the most part a very professional and sharp guy.
I realize that doesn't correlate into knife handling but it still puts a burr under my saddle.

I should thank him actually because I will no longer give away quality knives

Pry a busted bit out of a drill with the edge side of the blade, my blade. First, and last time I let people borrow my knives. To start he told me he needed it to cut some duct tape, then I turn back to him and he is prying away with my knife. Lesson learned.

most people often using a chopping axe motion when using a knife to slice food or paper..its painful to watch slicing/cutting techniques.

Well I let my father carry a knife of mine when I had his sharpening them.. a few days later when I returned his, he showed me a video cutting up a car tire with my beloved composite blade kershaw, at the time it was minty...
