What is the ETA for the Ti-Millie?

If I see one at the Blade show this weekend i will get a pic and post it here.

Josh,
The Ti Millie is beautiful, but it would be shame to just let it sit there and not have any fun. Trust me, it's still a "user". ;)

That's why I'm getting two. :D

They're going to have some enormous trade value. If I for some reason don't like the two I get, that's fine, but if I (almost assuredly) do, I'll be buying every one I can get my hands on through Tom.

Only if Sal gives his okay. I think that it was SHOT or another show where they had one with a "No Pictures Please" sign on it.

You can of course, tease us with a detailed description. :D

Still, S30V on a knife of this price... Plus, isn't the Millie supposed to be the folding equivalent of the Mule, i.e. a testing vehicle for new steels? I mean, given the price of this thing, for a few dollars more they could have chosen S90V, ZDP or even S110V...

The economy is buckling and giving it full ti scales is hard enough. S30V is more then enough. Chris Reeve uses it, so does Strider. Not many people are using, or have a use, for anything higher like S90V/S110V.

I would have been fine with it if they did half G10 to save on costs. It doesn't HAVE to be full titanium, i rather it be a little cheaper.

Yes, but we have been spoiled by Spyderco in the past (S90V Millie, ZDP Stretch and many more) and for less money, so it is hard to swallow. Just my personal opinion, anyway.

The Ti might actually be cheaper considering you don't have to change the machining for a G-10 side, just do two in Ti and cut a lockbar in one and clip screws in the other.

Now if they did the G-10 like Strider does on their folders, by milling it out and using it as the backspacer as well as the scale.... that would be kick ass.

S90V millie's street price was about $200. That was with a super steel, and peel-ply CF handles. ZPD Stretch is also right around that $200 price point. Putting a S90V blade in the ti millie would push it to about $270 street, and then it's no longer worth it, because you can just get a sebbie for an extra sixty bucks.

I think the price point and materials are both justified and I'm happy with them. :D

How do you reach that 270$ figure? S90V would probably add 10-20$ tops (I mean, they were selling the Mule for around 60$). I am not even sure the CF scales are actually cheaper than the Ti.

I'm sure that the machining costs are far more for the Titanium then the CF. CF you can use drill bits, titanium chews up expensive carbide drill bits like a kid eats animal crackers.

After you figure in grinding costs for the S90V, I'm gussing it's going to add about $50 to the knife. $220 street + $50 upgrade S90V = ~$270.

Those Mules are sold with almost no profit built in. The cost of the blade is the cost of the steel + heat treat + machining + labor. No extra money is being made on the mules, which are actually $69.99, not $60.

I think a wire clip would be dreamy for the Mili.

I disagree.

The wire clip is great for tip down knives and smaller, dressier knives. The Military is neither. As often as I wear a suit, I always have a smooth CF Caly3 to compliment it.

Millie goes IWB on such occasions. :D
