What is the focus of your collecting?

For me it is part "need" and part want.

I "need" a blade long enough for food prep, and a handle big enough for my mits.

I "want" a knife that clicks my inner fidget addiction. So backlocks don't usually excite me. I like smooth operating knives. Spyderco compression lock knives tickle my fancy because of this.

Edit: not all knive purchases are because of either of those things. My slip joints are a good example. I adore Swiss Army Knives, but for different reasons.
My SAK knives are for a support class. They are a back up to my primary. They also turn screws and allow me to have a knife around sheeple.

I really have no 'focus', usually I go with "big and bad". However, I do have a utilitarian streak that runs-through-me. So that means anything from a Cold Steel Black Talon II, to a Swiss Army knife.

I collect knives no more. I collect materials to make them, though, so that I can help your collection grow. That being said, sometimes I make ones I just can't bring myself to let go of, so I guess in that sense I am still a collector.

I scratched my "big and bad " itch a few years ago with a few Medford Praetorian and a Praetorian Ti. As well as the Chavez 228 Redencion Am Made Midtech. The itch never came back and I still get notification for Direware but never pulled the trigger one of those.

Dang near anything, really, that I can use. Unfortunately, that rules out katanas, although there are a few individuals who... never mind:D.

If I were to claim a "focus" when it comes to my humble collection (if you could even call it that), I'd say it's all about variety and utility. Just like to have different options for carry from day to day.
