What is the future of Ethan's monthly contests?

Seems like june is the last one we had. I know others have filled in the gap and had their own but, are Ethan's gonna come back at some point?

I think we need to drum up participation and support a bit. When I first started browsing this forum a few years ago (I lurked a really long time before posting anything) there seemed to be a lot more regulars who participated often in these types of events. Those guys/gals all but disappeared (or maybe they are lurking to see what we do?). Maybe they joined another forum? Or life happened/interests changed? Who knows.....

There seems to be a very large generational shift happening here. Most old school members have kinda vanished. A lot of new guys here posting in big numbers (not a bad thing we need you)... We make it what it is. Ethan makes the knives and if we engage the tools in new, creative and enthusastic ways he will probably challenge us..........with new challenges. Full of periods.....;)

Lolz, Ethan does love his extended ellipses :).

True about the participation though. Perhaps doing them less frequently will increase enthusiasm and participation? That whole supply and demand thing...

:D

As far as participation goes I can only speak for myself but
1. I'm not an official BH yet so that disqualifies me from most contests
2. I have several interests and depending on my mood only one seems to occupy my attention for a span of time. So I was absent from BFC for a bit while I was in a truck phase and missed a few contests not long ago.
3. Some prizes just don't interest me or might be something I already have so I let others take a crack at it.
4. It might be something I'm confident I can't win at so I don't bother.

Hey Fal'er.....And All.......

Thanks for bringing this up........To be honest I kinda ran out of ideas for new contests combined with a couple of "personal challenges" that have distracted me.....They WILL BE BACK.........SOON.........

Ethan

Great news thanks Ethan I enjoyed the challenges even if I didnt enter all of them.

I'm with you Psyop.
I always enjoy seeing the entries in Ethans challenges.
I can usually take away some knowledge from them as well.

I enjoyed them. I only took part in one but I loved it. It really did make me think.

Now I just gotta get more involved in more of them!

He wrote that he was running out of idea's. I've got a few. Maybe we outta make a thread of contest ideas for him.

Good thread. Contests were excellent. Not only for all the cool prizes, (Thank you Ethan !) but you're always learning new stuff too.

I participated in most of them and my camp is a result of several contests.
I'm still using it 2 years later -
Just thought I'd put up some pics for some new folks that haven't had a chance to see what some of the contests can produce

First - shelter building contest (I'm a little OCD and kinda' when a little crazy on this one - LOL)

Raised bed lean too

Added some sides, firepit, etc.

Second - Smaller shelter building contest

Camp - what it has developed into.

Chairs and stuff were part of other contest too.

Again - my point is not just too show off my camp ;) :D
But too illustrate how useful and productive the contests can be.

Like I said, I've been using this for 2 years now and other than re-roofing and a few new lashes here and there,
it's still going stong and a fun place too get into the woods.

Yeah, cobra. Truth be told I gave away almost all of the knives I won in his contests, In fact I can't think of one that I still have. What I liked about the contests is it motivated me to get off the computer and go do some skills I should have been doing anyway. Plus I got so many good idea's for alternate ways of doing a thing.

I vote for a contest involving homemade bush glue.

Cobra...Awesome pics. I want a place to play like that.

Back on Topic: I look forward to the contests because I love to learn new things and challenge myself.
