What Is The General Consensus on Cold Steel Folders

Perhaps mine was a lemon, but I got a recon 1 from la police gear that was incredibly dull. There were no wear markings anywhere on it indicating use. The blade also wobbles side to side a bit, is that normal? I did sharpen it, no big deal but it kinda bummed me opening up the box all excited only to discover it can't cut paper. The black coating is weak too. The experience has left me kind of up in the air about CS knives.

That is definitely not the norm, sle. I would either go for an exchange or send it to Cold Steel to be corrected. As for the black coating, it will wear off as Teflon is not that hard of a material. Such is normal.

The black coating rubs off on all of them. To a lot of guys this is a plus though because they don't like the black anyways.

The dull can happen with any production company knives. I would not judge any company by one knife unless it starts to become a trend and you start hearing about it in various other places besides your own experiences and even then its iffy if you really have a trend or its just coincidence.

Most of my knives were sharp as any other company knives. One of my American Lawman folders sold recently was noticeably duller than the others I bought though so it does happen. The good news is they can be sharpened up pretty quick and as for the blade wobble. Thats a simple matter of tightening a pivot screw a bit more. Who knows how that happened. Just one of those things I guess. Your issues are minor compared to others I've read about. Personally I'd rather deal with small things like that over locks showing clicking sounds, vertical blade play up and down or sharp edges on the liners and things like that requiring a bit more know how and time to fix.

i have an old zytel ti-lite that i've beaten to hell and, with a quick tune from a blue box and some loc-tite, it's back to spec. tough, tough knife. i've done things to that knife that i wouldn't dream of doing to my others (it was my first "real" knife that wasn't a piece of swap meet junk). i have a few machetes, an urban pal (which i love and recommend to even non-knife folks just as something sharp and useful) and a roach belly. they've satisfied every use i've ever had for 'em.

I like these. Especially the top one. I don't think they are out til May? I like big blades. I have a Manix and Chinook now. 4in blade is fine with me.

I have been buying Cold Steel products since 1984, when I met Lynn at a gun show. I have a few Voyagers, a Trail Master V, Recon Scout San Mai III and just got a Pocket Bushman. All have met or exceeded my expectations. When I look for a new knife, CS is one of the first places I check.

My current EDC knives are a large Deuk-Deuk, Opinel #8 and a Pocket Bushman. There all cheap and functional. All what I like in a blade.

I had an American Lawman for awhile and I was pretty impressed with the knife....except for the blade coating which I thought was a a big :thumbdn:. The only reason I got rid of it was the G10 on the knife would murder my jean pockets. So in my limited experience with Cold Steel I would say that there products are pretty good but I have not seen any that are "home runs".
