What is the govt. doing???

Good to see you back, Ben, and thanks for good AM laugh. As you know I have been a wild and crazy guy in my time (and still am for a 70 year old guy running on spare parts) and you have always served as a good balancing act for me.

Ever since Dr. Spock we have been warned not to give children inhibitions by disciplining them. These bozos have forgotten their own theory of evolution: we didn't come down from the heavens, we came down from the trees. Children desperately need to develop inhibitions, about things like stealing, lying, cheating, murder etc. And it is the parent's duty to instill these inhibitions, whether society supports them or not. It's time we all quietly and completely refuse to allow this PC nonsense anymore.

if we weren't going to allow it, we should have stopped it before an entire generation was raised on it.

So does anyone have any idea how to stop the nonsense and get rid of the entrenched politicians who probably like the state we're in because people are becoming so complacent that they don't vote them out.

It'll take a grassroots uprising to get anything done and I'm hoping that there are enough concerned people to get a start on it.

My 18 yr. old son is right in that even the military is having a hard time getting the new people to take responsibility. Hope he stands strong though all the b.s.

but the system was careful to include proofs against its demise. Boycott elections, Boycott eht electoral college, make the presidency less lucrative (example: Bill clinton rakes in the millions after being pres, just for the sake that he was the pres).

In today's political climate, speaking out on such could get ya hauled off as a "terrorist" and you may be never seen again (ominous parallel to the rounding up of dissidents in Nazi Germany and Viet Nam).

A wise man once said: Today's terrorist is tomorrow's freedom fighter.

That could be taken much differently than it was intended since Sept. 11, I know. Today it seems that terrorist=fanatic. But the colonists who won independence from England were most certainly demonized as rebel scum and terrorists by the Brits. The Northern army led by Karzai in Afghanistan was once our enemy, yet they were huge in the liberation of Afg. and became freedom fighters/liberators.

Hero and Villain are just a matter of perspective. Fanatics of any sort are not to be trusted.

>>Ferrous

No Ferrous, a very foolish man said that. One who wants moral equivilence to raise degenerative behavior and lower evolved society.

Ferrous, freedom fighters do not blow up innocent civilians.

Hitler was a villain. Got morals? You're right about fanatics and I hope you've just mistated or I've misunderstood you.

thanks,

"Remember years ago, that American teenager got caned for vandalizing cars in Singapore? Everyone said, "How cruel and inhumane.""

Oh yeah. Remember the case well. Kid was smart enough to shake the hand of the whipper after the whipping, then appear on "Larry King Live". I believe the caning thing came from the time (not so long ago) when jail wasn't a punishment for many because life on the street was worse.

I understand that the kid went back to live with his father and then got into some real trouble (attacked his father one night and had to be locked up if I remember correctly).

At the time most people in the States seemed to like the Singapore system. True there is very little crime (especially violent crime). But it does cost something. Bringing in a shotgun costs US$300+ in storage and transport fees (it is taken by armed escort from the airport special holding area to the amory). An outsider has to pay a four digit figure to join the gun or rifle club in order to shoot skeet regularly. If you get into trouble as a teenager (shoplifiting, a fight, underage drinking, even underage smoking sometimes), it is rumored that your records are kept on a computerized database which follows you for life through the army and your career (one reason why crimes are solved so quickly).

Come to think about it . . . I wonder how much of the forum would have served some time if they were born in Singapore? :D (but sir, that Tarwar is not a sword, it's a piece of art, only for display purposes, but but but I didn't know that . . . . );)

If the "system" doesn't work, why does society so readily embrace it? Do "we" really understand where this is taking us or are we insane? Kinda like having a gun with the barrel pointed backwards like in the cartoons and touting how wonderful it is.:D

"Today's terrorist is tomorrow's freedom fighter."

The difference between "Terrorist" and "Freedom Fighter" depends less on the beliefs and actions of those groups and more on the beliefs and actions of those labeling them.

Many "Freedom Fighters" supported by the U.S. become "Terrorists" as the political climate changes and their agenda no longer coincides with the agenda of the United States even though the actions and methods of operation of the groups don't change.

I have to keep it simple: There are good guys and bad guys. Sometimes good guys become bad and sometimes bad guys become good.

I think good men can do bad things, and bad men good.

I think when a 'revolutionary' intentionally targets mass civilian casualties they've left the political and become murderers, terrorists.

One premise pushed by society is that people are inherantly good and society is progressing toward utopia(kinda Marxist I know). But where is the proof that this is happening. Is the freedom fighter pursuing his own agenda or that of the govt? I've wondered if many sensless terrorist acts weren't done merely to exercise ones own will. Many authors (George Orwell) proposed this kind of thinking. The child mentioned above likes the power and control no doubt.

Grassroots it is, Mamav. Join a political party(more than one if that's allowed in America). Dues-paying members will be listened to more than mere voters. Get your friends to join and "hijack" your local constituency association. But most of all speak out, talk about your concerns. Write letters to the editor, your local politicians etc.. Even venting your frustration on this forum is helpful and can inspire other like-minded people. You're right,Munk, we shouldn't have allowed a generation to be raised on this crap, but better late than never.
Actually, Ferrous, the people of Britain tended to sympathize with the American colonists in the Revolutionary War. So did many of the British officers sent to fight them. After all, King George turned to the colonies to exert his authority because his power had been curtailed in Britain.
Cheers, Mark

Ben, I'm glad to see you posting. I've always learned something from your posts and hope you'll continue.

"See first quote below. "

Is this what happens to a P. Geezer when spring thaws him out of his icebox? :D

Actually, I narrowly missed having to go back into the icebox today.:D

Our flight was cancelled on account of white-out blizzard conditions at the mine site. Sat at the airport from 6AM to 1PM. We try again in the morning. I can't wait.

Oh well, I am off to see the X-men on my freshly borrowed time! :)

munk. Ben's on my trail. He stated it better than I.
Fanatics are the ones who blow themselves and others up, or kill abortion docs in the name of their god.

Keith

People like that should get a bullit in the head and charge the family for the round! Society is better off with out them!
