Or, what is the best complement for a knife? (complEment not complIment.) A knife is a tool for cutting, separating things. What tool is the yang to a knife's yin? Assuming that cutting and joining are how humans primarily modify their environments, what is the most essential joining tool/element that's equivalent to the most essential cutting tool (which I assume is a knife)?

Second question: Do you carry it/them? You carry a separator, do you also carry a joiner? (joiner not jointer.)

Spork.....

Second Question? Paracord

My brain is too feeble to process these kinds of complex questions. "Smoke issues from ears"

The opposite of a sharp knife ? I have a Politician's name on my tongue, but this is the wrong forum.

This is what immediately pops into my head

The opposite of carrying a knife is not carrying a knife for fear of public reaction.
Everything else goes well with a knife.

The "opposite" of a knife? Something for "joining"? Something that "compliments" a knife?

Rope.

I have considered carrying a small bundle of paracord. I had a situation once where I needed some but didn't have any on me. Lately I've been thinking about it again. It's probably the "little voice" in my head telling me to do it. I have always gotten into trouble not listening to that "little voice".

I would have said a sharpening hone best compliments a knife, but the OP specifically said something that joins things together.
