Increments are too tight in this poll. Personally I think it’s $200-$250.

More so I think there are jumps or levels one level may top out around $125, then another level may top out around $250 after which you may run up to $400 but you aren’t gaining your money’s worth in only function.
Nope, sorry. Can only pick one. Not trying to overcomplicate the question.

What does a PM2 or 940 cost these days? That much. Less from an American company and you're getting less-than-premium steels and other materials. Or buying from China.

Well, I can get a Spyderco Shaman, Manix, Para 2/3, in any of the “super steals” that will do just about anything for a very long time with great action, great lockup with zero blade play, etc for around $200 here on the forum. I’d even throw in the Cold Steel AD-10 in S35VN, what a dang amazing knife for $150!!!!!!! Once I get above this price point your just scratching that knife addict itch. Kind of like having a new Lexus in your driveway versus a BMW M4, Porsche Panamera, any Tesla lol, Mercedes E63AMG, Cadillac CTS-V, Charger Hellcat, etc. sure they give you way more in every category (luxury, HP, design….) but the Lexus is probably more than you’ll need for almost any driving circumstance and still gives a lot of luxury, HP, design. Not the best analogy but you get the point. At least with nice cars you get a thumbs up from time to time because people appreciate what your driving. My cousin asked to use my CRK large Inkosi, he liked it and asked me how much it cost and then he literally fell out of his chair when I told him. No love for higher end knives even moderate knife enthusiasts, just looks of contempt, lol.

Isn't buying a knife as important an issue; as buying an engagement ring? I vote for the "two Months worth of paychecks" rule.

Remind me which engagement ring will save you from starvation and freezing out in the wild. ;)

When I think about all the knives I have accumulated, I could easily sell many of them and purchase a much more expensive blade.

So, as a collective, my assorted items are well into the five digit range.

But for whatever reason, I like to buy blades within the 50 to 200 dollar range. I have no idea what prevents me from enjoying knives that cost more than that.

Me too. I have a couple Hinderers but when I spend that kind of money I put the knife on a pedestal in my mind. I get everything I need and maybe More enjoyment out of a $200-250 knife.

I think over $50 is usually more about wants than needs for the average person. $150-$175 is where you stop paying for material performance and start paying for design/fit and finish/brand and that sort of thing. IMO Hogue and Spydercos in this price range are just as functional as CRK and Hinderer at a third of the price.

This isn't meant to bash CRK and Hinderer, but I don't see them as a functional upgrade. Dovetailing on that thought, I think titanium scales are a step back in function from steel liners and G10.

I guess it is the guilt-less use?

Lol, maybe.

I guess it's sorta like how I have this pretty nice old 85 4Runner.

It's a capable 4x4, and would be a lot of fun rambling around off road. But for some stupid reason, I don't. I don't want to "ruin" it, as it's tough to find parts for, and you don't see many that aren't all roached out, or chopped up.

It is a silly premise really, and it prevents me from going out and enjoying what it was built for.

Ironically, I will flog the crap out of my late model Tacoma, which cost me much more than that old 4Runner.

People are weird. Myself included.
