What is the rarest 300 series?

These are pretty rare, but I would call these after market modification. Bought a couple from old collector. Should say older, now am about his age.
I think these were not sold by Buck but someone else. Aurum Etch. You guys like the fancy stuff..... 300

Larry Oden and I once agreed to say they were salesman samples. But, too many were creeping out of the woodwork. I now say they were production prototypes or first runs. There are too many other Cami contract 300s with little scale pins to just be samples. I think they were starting production of the Buck order just as Camillus was changing designs and not using scale pins.

About 1971-1972 seems to be the end of handle pins for all of the Camillus contract 300 Series.

A few of you are probably tired about creating a photo monster. Let me end up with some photos I have already arranged for download and are a tuff 300s to find and I will quit. 300

Here is better photo of a early 311 with handle pins.

The California Toothpicks on the left and right aren't hard to find, the dark jigged bone in the middle is the tough one.

The Winchester special orders were given to employees and others and less than a 1,000 of each were made. They came to Winchester in paper sleeves and had no box.

A couple of years the VA Wild Turkey Federation special ordered box sets of 314 trappers to be sold or auctioned at their events.

Some additional boxed sets were made for other organizations but I used this as an example.

Good luck in your searches. 300

Here are a few 303s grey handle no workman, grey "BUCK", grey KBH, black KBH, and a DU greenwing. I'll clean this up when I get to my computer.

You guys are killing me, especially with those pins & serrations, but thanks for the Buck porn just the same. A #305 Clipper in black sawcut just went through the bay, someone, (probably one of you guys), snatched it away from me in the final moments, (did I say ARRGGHHH!!? If not, "ARRGGHHH!"); not sure if it had Wenger scissors or not, but at least I know some black sawcut versions are out there. I have a smooth blue version of the Clipper, and heard that there were other colors as well, (yellow, red & violet were mentioned; dunno for sure, just what I heard). How about a Cami-era #305 with pins? I have one of those, I'm assuming it's a late 1971 knife.

You guys are showing some great stuff. Thanks!

I had no idea the clipper even came in colors.

I also do not remember ever seeing a Buck Toothpick. What is the model number on those?

I agree Doc! It reminds me why I limited my collecting to 303s. Otherwise I would be bankrupt...lol

I think the US made Toothpicks were a SMKW exclusive, but could be wrong about that. You do have to give those folks credit for making things happen with these slippies though. If not for SMKW we might not have the red and yellow, or the "Last CA/First ID" commemorative models, etc...

As for the 305 Clippers, I think there were 2 releases. The earlier one in 89-90 that had black, red, pink, lavender, blue and jigged bone. 300 did a great writeup on them for the BCCI. I think it's in the model history section. It seems like they came out again for one year in the mid-late 90s too, but I don't recall for certain.

My only clipper

The 306 Duets were in the catalog for 1 year only, 2011. They were available in 4 handle materials, black sawcut, gray dymondwood, yellow and pink delrin. There must not have been very many sold because I never see them for sale today. Like the 305 Clipper sold in the early 90's, they were both based on the 305 Lancer.

My interpretation of the OP's question "What is the rarest 300 series" would be a model number. Just my observation but fishing the Bay the model that does not surface often and I have a particular fondness for is the Buck 319 Rancher. At least fine specimens seem rare and far between. Also original 315's seem to fetch premium prices when they come up. I like collecting pile stamped 317's also.

Lots of wonderful rare knives pictured in this thread though...

I thought about that, but I wouldn't call any of the 300 models rare and here, if a question is even a little ambiguous, it leaves the door wide open. Maybe Doc T will clarify what he meant. Even if we broke the rules, it's been fun.

I have no idea how many of these exist, but there were a few of these at Blade in 2011 - they called them a 305 Delrin Test -

Will wait to hear what OP was asking about "rarest" 300. But, I was going with any 300 model version as "rare". If you are going to just go with model numbers then the old 'Lifeboat' 117s first folders are the rarest and most expensive.

Here is photo showing rarest 305 Clipper with the Wenger made scissors, notice how they look different and have a sawtooth edge on the scissor blade.

Here is a look at all the Clipper colors, if you look in a clipper blade well you will see some scale plastic that goes thru liner hole to hold the clipper up so you can reach the "nic's". The brown bone has a clear plastic 'holder upper'.

OK, DM this is the best I can come up with for a 307 with scale pins. It is someone else's knife, I stole the photo, I think from a SPS. The tangs are not visible but they sure look like 307s on the bolsters. I won't argue if everyone thinks they are 301's.

Here's the two versions of the 319 Ranchers. Even though the newest version has a small nail nic, they also were made by Camillus.

You know I don't have them all, in fact there are one or two in this thread I don't have. I don't intend to try to find them all. Would have liked to have got that Clipper with black sawcut scales just to have a complete set. But, I don't have a few because I thought they were too high priced. So they slipped through my fingers and I have never and likely will never see them again. If you are a hardcore collector starting out, remember that statement. 300

Love the boat knife! The last one I seen on ebay was a year or two ago and it went for big money! I was close to going after it, but thought of the other nice stuff I could spend that money on.
