What is the sharpest knife within these specific parameters

Any Spyderco + SM (w/diamond rods) + strop (w/green compound) = Sharp, been using this process for 30 years. Start w/grey (medium) rods, if after a few strokes you haven't improved the edge, it needs to be thinned w/the diamond rods...just a few strokes and it's back to the grey...should be just shaving in no time. Lightly strop and your done.when dull...repeat.

My experience also.

Delica or endura. Sharpens up quick and easy. You'll have best luck with vg10 based on your criteria.

thanks - i did get a combo edge Delica that has been the sharpest of all the blades i have acquired so far. maybe i should get a plain edge version also.

thank you for the advice. any strop and green compound you can recommend?

Sal makes it looks easy, and it is....when you've done it 1 million times.

The SM is not some magic sharpener where you just run your knives down the rods and they shave hair.

There is technique involved, and there are not too many knives that are 15 or 20DPS out of the box. Close maybe, but close will mean that you will be hitting the shoulder more then the edge....

yeah - learning this the hard way.. the sharpie did help to visually show where i was hitting. just this visual feedback has already given me a better perspective

Just a decent size piece of leather, I usually use a old piece of stirrup leather. Green polishing compound is what most recommend, I use mother mcguires metal polish myself as its cheap and they have it at walmart.

Just bought some nice leather from Tandy on amazon... $15 for 3'×3"...good stuff. I've used the inner face of strips cut from a cereal box works well...in a pinch....I'd imagine it'd hold up for some time if mounted. Metal polish is a great suggestion, green jewelers rouge should be easy to find. Do a search for making strops and you'll see how to load/prep.

Every Spyderco I've ever owned came stupid sharp
out of the box. The FFG makes shaving easy. Enjoy.

The sharpest knives I've gotten right out of the box have been a Spyderco paramilitary 2 and a Spyderco Bradley folder.

the new bradley 2 looks quite nice - will either wait for it, or get the first incarnation here in the exchange

FFG! my spyderco dice is very sharp! yet to try other new FFGs. the budget lines (persistence, ambitious) are not as sharp - but it could well be just my touch up skills.
