What is the smoothest action on a custom folder you have seen?

It's a toss up between my Crawford KFF and DDR Mini Madd Maxx. TNT is very close if not in a dead heat...

I have a TiNives S&S with Chews bearing system nad it's pretty darn smooth so I know his customs are at least as good probably better, but I've never held one.

I got to play with Joe's (Chisel) Cobra last week and I am still thinking how impressivly smooth that baby was. My Stan Fujisaka will have to go on the list also.

Wow...yeah...so many outstanding designs to contemplate. I will add another ~~~> Kansei.., absolutely phenominal smoothness!!

I'll chime in as I didn't see Keith Coleman mentioned. I have his Model II and it has the smoothest opening I have ever felt in a knife.

I have never had a cahnce to handle a Chew knife, but my large J.W. Smith recurve and my Greg Lightfoot 460 Magnum are some of the smoothest that I have handled. I almost forgot my Carson LG M16 :)

in a liner lock, it is almost impossible to beat JW Smith but Phil B comes close. Now when you move on to a lockback, I don't think anyone touches the work by Steve Hoel.

Phil's Cobra is the SMOOTHEST opening folder I've ever handled todate, the only one that came close? Well, it was ANOTHER of Phil's knives, a Stiletto blade folder that is owned by Larry at BladeArt, his personal knife, had the pleasure of seeing it in order to make his sheath a few months ago, that also had a flipper of sorts, the integral guard acts as a flipper and with a touch of the finger you can send the blade into position quite easily and lockup is still good and tight! Following Phil's knives? Brad Duncan's folders were almost equally impressive in the smoothness of opening.

I don't own one, but I handled my friend's Boguszewsky...absolutely the smoothest folder I have ever handled, maybe too smooth. There are many extremely smooth folders out there. Second to Boguszewsky's work in terms of smooth action is Bob Lum whose action I actually prefer more. Doesn't anybody own a tactical Lum folder?

I had the pleasure of trying one of Ron Lake's folders last year and it was pretty amazing...

I'll add one more: Roger Dole - part time maker. Great action.
BG-42 blade, Giraffe bone handle - and the best action I have ever felt.

I also agree on the Crawford's..

This thread made me go and get out all my folders and test them. And it's really tough. When you're talking about any of these folks you're talking about the very, very best that there is. The difference between any one of them is less than the variations between two knives from the same maker. I really couldn't tell. The ones from the Crawfords were the easiest opening, but Barr, Carson, Gilbreath, Terzuola, Greenaway, Gedraitis, Leuschen and Allen are all very, very close.

This one... by John W. Smith - can't imagine that a knife could be smoother than this.
