what is the spyderco military great for? why is it so popular?

I have seven millies because I can.

Don't despair with that puny number. We won't think any less of you just because you are a beginner.

I have 12 that I can remember, including 2x each of the orange S30V, brown CTS-XHP, and CF. One to carry and one to keep virginous. Plus a Ti/G10.

Hoarding is an effective, albeit temporary, suppressor of emotional pain. Don't knock it until you have tried it.

I'm sure, but then I'm not a lawyer. ;)

I wanna be like you when I grow up. :D

A number of people have this concern, but I consider it a great feature. Sometimes a pointy point is just what is needed. I love the pointy point.

I feel the same as you completely, I just normally have to clarify a bit since on an extremely technical side, the tip is a bit weaker than some other knives. But overall, yes it's a huge advantage more than anything. And I have seen Military tips be used harder than thousands of desk jockies who tout the toughness of overbuilt tanks of knives over slicey spydercos many times.

The fine tip, and negative blade angle, bringing the tip down in line with your wrist are HUGE benefits of this design. Granted, most Spyderco knives have a negative blade angle like this, another reason I prefer them over other brands. Benchmade and Chris Reeve knives mostly all have designs that start with a straight handle, carried on to a straight blade at the same angle. It looks pretty, but it certainly doesn't work as well for me. I'll take a plain, ugly knife, that has design elements made to help you work better any day. (not that I find my Spydies ugly :p )

My only Millie is the Ti/G10. I've handled a bunch of normal G10 ones, but never done a direct comparison, are the handles the same thickness? I love the bit more heft you get with this sprint run, though it's still light for it's size. I also feel the combo of g10 and Ti give it great acoustics when the framelock engages. Maybe that's just me, though.

those who like the spyderco military because it's thin, light and has quality materials, what do you do when you carry it? do you have a lot of stuff in your pocket? do you run? do you wear really tight fitting clothes?

You are clearly fishing for reasons not to like this knife for whatever reason, but I'll bite. I ride my bicycle at least an hour every day. With my military clipped on the waistband of my shorts. Then I work for 9 hours on my feet, working on cars, equipment, and moving heavy objects, with my Military clipped the same way to my work pants. Then I either go home and veg out, or hang out with buddies, with my Military clipped the same way to my jeans.... Oh, and I run a few times a week too... Oh, and I take it hiking usually once a week. Prepare my lunch at work, etc....

Could I do this with a lesser knife? You bet. And sometimes I do. The knife world has people drawing lines in the sand in their own personal ways for what, and why, they carry. Many people have left the "tactical" knives behind and now only carry traditional style slipjoints. And I have actually done this for several months, even after discovering the military. I can get by just fine. But when it comes to large, one handed, locking knives, the Military stands head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd to me. For reasons I've already said a lot of.

A few months back I was Asking myself the same question, now I'm awnsering it!
I thought it was visually...unpleasant lol, I wasn't a fan of the liner lock thing and it just seamed odd.
Many people ask "BM 710 vs military" I was hands down on the BM side before not im not.
You need to try to handle one, I handled a camo handled version in Person and I ended up getting camo over the black, I thought it lT looked cheesy in pictures.
It's one of the only knifes I have consitered buying multiple versions of.
