What is the wave?

Ernie Emerson came up with the idea, by happy accident, when he made a few knives on trial by Navy SEALS. However, both parties were overjoyed when, in trying the knives, the SEALS realized that the knive could be drawn from the pocket, utilizing the WAVE feature, in an OPEN position.

The proper term is the "Emerson Opening", the word "Wave" is a trademark of Leatherman.

Got that right; nothing as comforting as having a waved folding knife in your pocket whilst standing in the dark at an ATM in the dodgy section of town.
