Wow, I love my Top Lock. Ren (TDTB) gave it to me as a gift at last year's Blade Show, so I guess it holds sentimental value too. But overall I find the knife to be smooth and has retained a pretty nice edge. My only complaint is that the blade seems to be prone to scratches. Mine has noticeable, multiple scratches on the blade, and yet I've only used it "hard" a few times.
I even have a knife from Pakistan that I like. ha!
I don't always care about the blade steel, or the handle material..or even what kind of lock it has. I like it to be tight and consistently functioning at a reasonable level. I am partial to a nice hard "click" upon opening.
Blade play is annoying, but not always an issue for me, unless it's
w-a-y excessive.
I prefer Spydercos. I believe their out-of-the-box sharpness is unmatched. The people that makes the decisions at Spyderco are passionate about what they're doing. Money is not always the bottom line. I know,
believe me.
Spydercos also seem to have the most solid construction of any EDC in that price range. You can get a NIB Delica on ebay for around $20-25, and I have played with $300 that didn't feel as solid. I carry my Blue BF Native almost exclusively, and I believe it's probably the best knife I've ever owned. Again, however; I have a close sentimental relationship with that particular knife. (Though the current one I have is the
third Blue BF Native I've had.) The previous 2 were stolen from my apartment within a very short time of each other. Both we given to me under very special circumstances.
I think there's been something redeeming about every knife I've had or handled. But then again, I don't make it a point to seek out Frost Cutlery stuff to play with.
So, the point is...I never met a knife I didn't like. Yet.
