What is this? (eBay auction)

That knife is a 3" model. You can tell from the 5 large holes that run down the handle. The exposed pins / blade shape make me think it is a model 10, thought not sure if benchmade or PC. I have no clue as to what that rainbow finish is.

Hope this helps,

If you want this knife, copy down the seller's email address. There's a very good chance that eBay will cancel this auction, due to their pathological fear of balisongs. Once they cancel the auction, email the seller and offer to buy it. I got a very nice damascus bali for a very good price from eBay this way.

It be a BM 30, you can see the small swedge on the blade if you look closely. Maybe Chuck can fill us in on the finish (or whatever makes it "rainbow" colored).

Oh yeah, on the pic that shows the back side of the blade you can see that it says "Benchmade USA" and not a serial number that would make it a PC balisong.

Actually that is some type of after market coating that was applied to a standard Benchmade. They were available form the EDGE company. If I remember right they claimed it had been put through some coating process by a defense contractor. It also looks like the coating is worn in some of the pics. I believe EDGE co. claimed that this process voided Benchmade's warrenty.

It's a BM30 Limited Edition. I have a BM10 that has the same finish. I spent a great deal of time figuring out what I had. At first the person at benchmade I talked to, thought it might have been a third party vender that did the coating. After asking around the shop, he said they probably did do the coating for a store or catalog supplier. He didn't know any more about them, but someone else that worked at Benchmade remembered the coating process they did on some BM10's and BM30's. He did say that it would not have voided the warranty, but the warranty on 10's and 30's were 10 years; not lifetime. These knives were made in the eighties, so they don't have a warranty anyway.

The knife is an aftermarket creation that the Edge Co. had done back in the early 90's.
The did a special run of 200 each o fthe model 10 and model 30 Benchmade Balisongs. The entire knife was , (and this is the wording from the catalog), "laser coated with titanium- nitride". Each one was serial numbered original sold in their catalog for $199.00 but they had a closeout on them a couple of years later at $79 and $99 respectively.
