What is this function of this blade shape for

Ok, just speculating here. But wondering if the blades that have an edge all the way to the ricaso and a sharper end hook are actually designed for easy opening. But the similar looking blades with a more gentle end divot, and a big finger choil are actually designed as a straight razor. Just thinking out loud, as we all know that many designs are very subjective in purpose and function. Not to mention those that are purely wrapped around marketing strategy.

But I will say that my little German Bull Barlow is very easy to open with one hand, usually just thumbing it. And for such a small edge, feels really great in the hand with a straight blade grip. Also for an inexpensive stag scaled knife, looks great and takes a great edge. With just a little basic strop, will shave quite well for its diminutive size. I'd really like to pick up a couple more for future gifts. Would make an excellent multifunctional camp knife. I've never shaved while camping, but now I want to try. [emoji41]

On straight razors, it's called a barber's notch. Some people believe it makes it easier to shave around the nostrils. When they copied the pattern for a slip joint, they kept the notch....

Interesting, it does make sense to me
