What is this magic that is Case CV steel?

Case cv is certainly an easy to maintain steel which takes a gorgeous patina as evidenced by all the fantastic photos on the forum here.

There are threads discussing the merits of non-stainless vs. stainless. This is not one of them.
This thread is discussing Case CV alloy. Please stay on topic.

My Sodbuster Jr. is amazing. It really does get hair popping sharp and maintaining the edge only seems to require a little stropping with green compound on leather. Absolutely love it so far, and it's the knife I carry most right now. Between my Sodbuster and Opinels, I'm not sure I need anything else (though I do of course own other knives). The only downfall (for me) was the yellow color the CV soddies require...I'd love some others in different colors. Even the black would be fine, and a wooden soddie jr. in CV would be my ultimate. So for now I'll just have to make do with my orange-ish RIT-dyed CV soddie jr. That dye did a number on the blade, but I don't mind a bit. This thing is awesome. Oh and I slightly dropped the tip to give it a working point. Love it.
