1st post- thanks for any help you can give. Trying to load pics now- in the meantime, visualize a double-bit with axe blade opposite a splitting blade that has two of those spring loaded flappers like a Chopper 1 or Great Divider. I grabbed it at a yard sale and I cant find any ID markings on it, and no others on the internet anywhere.

I somehow ended up with ten or more axes lately, I didnt even know I was into them but apparently I am. My favorite is the cutest little Mann double-bit Cruiser.....I just love it

It sounds like a monster! Just visualizing it in my mind I'm already jealous of your find :D
Welcome to the forums, and keep an eye on those axes. They like to multiply ;)

Good enough for us to get the gist of it. No idea what it is but it looks complex as all heck! A ghost bevel mechanical splitting double bit. Someone sure got creative.

Looks like a Chopper1.....but like....'in reverse'

EDIT: Yup, kinda....here's the site: https://www.chopper1axe.com/

and a pic

Yours looks like perhaps a copy or even a prototype.....not sure which though

It feels like a Frankenstein/prototype thing. But if there is more than one I guess not. It looks like a nice idea/good try/didn't work/marketing idea.

well, its cool, we can all agree on that... also, I'm of the opinion that every new poster of axes should be warned of the disease that goes with em.. Why was i not warned OO? dammit man, im heavy about 20 axes and short a woman now... only been on this kick since November - where will i be in a year? lol

Whelp, I still dont know who made this thing or when- but I have split several cords of green oak with it this fall and I have to say this is the best splitter I have ever used. At first, when splitting smaller rounds, it would blow them apart and send pieces 20+ feet away. I have found it doesnt take much effort to just open them up enough where they barely hold together so I can just walk around the log and get it into nice sections without having to bend over too many times. This thing is awesome. I am thinking of removing the flappers and have a friend make me a few replacements in case these ever break.

Somebody did message me wanting to buy it- that was back in July, sorry, not for sale.

If any of you ever come across one of these, buy it, use it, love it.

I remember when you posted the Frankenmaul and wondered how it would work for you.

Thanks for the update.

These are interesting axes.

I know about the Chopper 1 axes that are still sold. What is the history of the Warren Great Divider? I didn't see it in the Warren catalog, but they are not uncommon on the bay.

The "Great Divider" Wood-Splitting Axe was introduced in 1981, and reportedly made by Warren Tool, of Ohio (not Warren Axe & Tool of Pennsylvania).
