On Russian forum I just read a story, when guy like to buy Alaskan Guide from Cabela's and was told that goverment of US consider it (Buck 110 Alascan Guide) as a letal weapon (?!) and banned it for export???!!!

What is it?

It is not a big deal to buy Buck 110 everywhere all around the world. What is so spetial about Alascan Guide modification?

---------------

I just talk to Chris from Cabela's and she sad that by federal law shippment of Buck 110 Alaskan Guide as well as any knife of any sizes, which is considered as letal weapon, are banned to any place outside US - even Canada! She sad that they even can not ship to Alaska because it will cross Canadian border!

This is rediculos! Anybody shipping any kind of knives to almost any place on the Earth and Cabelas for some reson came up with such bann?

Thanks, Vassili.

The Buck Alaskan Guide cannot be shipped to Alaska? I think someone in their shipping department just took a correspondence law course and decided he's an expert now. :D

How did they decide what constitutes a lethal weapon? Sounds like sheeple to me.

Souds like this. When I asked what federal law and what list or rules to consider something as an letal weapon was used, they were not able to say anithing but - "Someone who knows told us".

Thanks, Vassili.

This is making my head spin ... I'm not sure I can click the right mouse buttons to move it to TGB&U, but I'm going to try....

Это - потому что они - идиоты

There's a few companies that are like that, they simply don't want to bother dealing with the import/export laws of various countries, so instead they just ban sales of anything that could vaguely be considered a weapon. Then they just make up a B.S. story to cover their butts.

The Sportsman's Guide is another company that's lie that.

Apparently there is a term called "dual use" that applies to an item that may legimate civilian uses, but 'could' be use for military or criminal activities. I have been in contact with several US agencies (i.e. www.export.gov ) trying to get an official determination if knives fall into this dual use catagory.
Not surprisingly, I have not been given a solid answer.
This could impact us and other dealers that are trying to do the right thing.
Cabela's 'could' be right on the money if their corporate lawyers have gotten a firm answer.

no no no..
i hope no. if would so, where us people in old europe will buy our knives..
i've spent my money in quite all dealers here that ship overseas, and arent the majority, and i had smooth business with all - well the package from New Graham with bandages caused caustic phrases from my wife ..like :" uh? they know you also over there ?" -

fingers crossed and regards

For what it's worth, Cabela's refuse to ship something a simple as a Choke Tube for a shotgun into Canada.

Hmmm, now the last time I heard the term "dual use" in regards to imports it was someone talking about components that could be used for either legitimate or illegal nuclear development. Funny f the Buck 110 falls into the same category.

This seems like a good opportunity to "pile on".

When my dad was in the nursing home Cabales called the home and asked for him, when my mom said he wasn't there, they accused her of refusing to let them speak to him because he "might buy something".

Later she called up and tried to cancel his rewards Visa with them, and again they refused accusing her of not letting her husband buy what he wanted.

I called finally got a bank supervisor (issuing bank is owned by cabelas I understand) who gave me the process to get it cancelled. We sent the required stuff but kept getting statements of $0. So we had to call again it hadn't been cancelled so we had to send stuff again.

I specifically asked for several times but did not receive an apology, though they mentioned that the incident was "logged".

My opinion of them is pretty low. I'm not surprised they gave you a bunch of double talk.

I wonder what the restrictions are. Not all knives in Cabela's on-line catalogue are marked "Some Restrictions May Apply." For instance, I can ship to Canada a D2 Grip, but a Buck 110 is restricted. BTW, I did try an address in Alaska, and no restrictions surfaced. Sad.

This has been going on for a while. And it's not just knives they won't ship.
I usd to order from them a lot. I stopped years ago, literally, and just moved on to folks like TAD, BentGate, MooseJaw etc who give a damn.
