What is wrong with me?

I seem to be different than the typical member here. I look at the many offering from GEC, Queen and Northwoods and I think about how great a GEC model 15 or 77 would be in my pocket. How great the various Northwood product would feel in the hand or look at the Buck knives from their custom shop with envy.

With all of that said I just can not seem to justify spending the money and to be honest I can not see how they would be better than my GEC 73.

It is not a remarkable knife although I really do love the looks of the ebony covers. It just seems to do everything I need from a knife, it is an ideal size to fit my hand with a useful blade shape and length. It takes a scary sharp edge and some metal polish keeps the patina at bay. It really has knocked the wind out of the many knife purchases I have considered. I try to find an excuse to buy another knife but every time I reach into my pocket I forget why I would need another knife.

What is wrong with me?

There isn't anything wrong about finding the "one" that you're most comfortable with, although I can't go past having more than two knives
then I'll want to sell them for something else. :D

I like the scales on yours, very nice.

Not a thing wrong with, but I happen to have a serious problem....

BTW, I have a #73. It was the first GEC I ever bought. Downhill ever since :p

Your 73 is a pretty sweet knife, it could easily serve by itself for many years of daily use. Nothing at all wrong with you. Enjoy it!

I found the same with my emerson. Bought a lot if others. Sold them and realized that was it for my tactical style blades.

I envy you. Must be nice to know which knife is the best one for your needs. I have to keep trying all of them until I find mine :D

Nice to know there is one out there. My problem is I keep creating problems to solve. IE. I need a whittling knife so I can Learn how to whittle.

I've looked at a #73 a few times and I'm sure it will pull me back in for a look see
As others have noted, you're lucky to have found "the one"
Here's a picture of the one Chuck Norris settled on ...

You found the one that works for you best! Nothin wrong with that, it's the road we are all on. But some, like myself, have an addiction to knives of the old timey pocket type! 😃 I too have some of the first #73s that GEC produced but I am saving those. GEC had a lot to prove in the early days of the company and I was right there watching it all, as were many. While I only own about 30 of their knives at the moment, I'm always paying attention to what they're creating next. I'm not looking to amass a huge collection, I'm just looking! 😎

You may be one of a very few who come to this site that does not have a problem. Myself, I lived in an area 40 years ago that had something bad in the water. Ever since I have been afflicted with an unquenchable desire to posses as many "old timey knives" as possible. If you get this there is no known cure my friend. Count yourself as lucky!

My motto is, "I only need one knife, but it has to be the right one."
If you have found "the one", then that's all you need.

:DAt least for a spell.:D

Well, I think you are very lucky: you appreciate other peoples' knives but they don't set you off, the 73 gives you contentment, you reached a level of Knife Knirvarna obviously:thumbup:

Meanwhile back in the Real World:D The Sick World of the Knife Junky...hanging around for a fix of bone, stag, wood or horn...:eek:going on a wild goose chase across the internet for a new sensation-Traditional Only mind:D cooking up a new type of Patina formula.. where the Postal service becomes like the Man, he may never turn up when you need him:eek::D:D

On the other hand, Traditionals offer so many variations of beauty, like great art, it would be a shame to subsist on one type of food for instance when there is an abundance:thumbup: It's like the Garden of Earthly Delights, and I can think of another analogy about only indulging you taste for one thing:D

What's wrong with us might be the right question!:D:cool:

Thanks, Will

I have been searching for "the one" for a long time, just when I think I've found it I read a thread on here about some pattern or brand that might be just a little more "perfect" and I can't resist the temptation.

The first GEC knife I ever bought was a 735109 in Burnt Stag. And it was the one for me. I now have about 15 or 20 73's! ;)
