CRK - Overall quality and product reliability
I've been carrying a Sebenza almost daily since 2008, and the action has not change, no play has developed, and the knife, aside from scratches, is pretty much the same as the day I got it. It's incredible, honestly. CRK is not a joke.

Busse - Toughness, coolness, community
Spyderco - Bold, Unique designs, company tone and philosphy, Sal Glesser
Victorinox - Handiness, pure usability
Microtech - True, cutting edge design features, amazing aesthetics

I'll give only my top production knife makers since there are too many custom makers to choose from.

For Folders:

1: Spyderco - Love the variations, the designs, they make a knife for everyone and with awesome sprint runs.
2: CRK - Definitely the best fit and finish on the market. Beautiful knives that strive for quality over quantity.
3: Emerson - Best ergos in the knife business! People complain that they are overpriced because the fit and finish is low, but these knives aren't designed to be pretty, they are designed to be the best tactical blades, which they are.
4: Strider - Awesome tough blades, with lots of customizable features. If CRK is the Rolls Royce, these guys are the Hummers.
5: BM - One of the best locks in the business (Axis) and they make some of the best bali-songs which I'm also into.


For Fixed blades

1: BRKT - Love the variations, the quality, and the design. BRKT make my favorite camping/outdoor blades.
2: ESEE - One of the best warranties and the prices are very good for what you're getting.
3: Fallkniven - Great quality knives for the money. Love the laminated steel. Built for strength and endurance. F1 remains one of my favorite small-mid sized fixed blade in existence.
4: TOPS - Awesome beefy knives with great warranty.
5: KA-BAR - These dudes and Mora make the best value knives for the money. They were my first fixed blades and hold a special place in my heart.
