What is your biggest fear about knives?

Honestly, to lose one of them. The ones I carry usually have an enormous sentimental value, and occasionally a pretty good physical value. Even though most of my knives could be replaced, it wouldn't be the same thing. Especially for the ones I've had for a while, or the ones that were given to me as presents.

For some reason when I'm pushing hard to cut something or stab something, I'm always "afraid" of the lock failing and fingers going bye bye. Never happened and probably never will.

After I die my family going through all my knives and not knowing the value of each and selling them off for cheap.

My most active day to day fear is one of pocket clip failure and a very lost knife.

Thanks....now I'm afraid of that too! ;)

Dropping them point first onto my bare foot.

I think of this scenario often, just for a split second but long enough to either work over a bench, or at least put something on my feet. The chance of nipping my thigh on the way to my foot isn't a comforting thought either.

Rust, ruining the edge, snapping off the tip, just plain losing it in general, and not having it at hand when I really, really need it.

Losing them.

I really hate that sharp, agonizing, jolt of terror that shoots through my body and soul when I realize "I DON'T KNOW WHERE MY KNIFE IS!!!!" Like when you reach down to grab the folder from your pocket, completely assuming that it will be there, because it SHOULD be there, BUT IT ISN'T THERE!!!

I'm generally not attached to my knives in a sentimental way, but the knives I carry cost between $100 and $300, and at this point in my life it would hurt if I lost one. Also, I just hate losing things in general and it would really bug me to not know where my knife is. Fortunately I haven't lost a knife since I was a kid.

I am worried about knife laws in the US becoming draconian as more and more people start viewing knives as weapons. I never have and likely never will use one as a weapon, but I still get funny looks time to time when I need to use my knife. Really irritating how views are so easily changed because of a handful of widely publicized knife related violence cases. Weird that it doesn't happen with guns, though...

For those who are worried about knife laws in the US becoming more restrictive. I wouldn't worry about it. Do a little research (or reading on this forum) and you will see that some states have recently REPEALED their bans on owning and carrying SWITCHBLADES (widely considered to be the most EVIL knives of all). And if I recall, I believe that it was Arizona that repealed ALL of their knife laws. And that's just a few examples.

In 2012 here in California, the CA Supreme court confirmed the right of Californians to carry one-hand opening manual folders.

And just think, all of these things occurred despite the fact that there are several brutal knife-related murders, rapes and robberies every year in each of these states.

Personally, I'm not worried. It actually looks like knife-rights are expanding in this country, not being taken away.

Biggest fear is cutting an artery or opening a wound big enough to be problematic somewhere far from help, like a 3 day paddle away from the car which is a 4 hour drive from the hospital.

Be for i got a way of sharpening my knives , the knife going dull was my biggest fear. this is when i first started carrying one.

I dropped a bk2 on my foot, that wasnt fun :p.

My biggest fear would be to lose one of my favorites (would probably drive me insane)

The second would be getting stabbed multiple times....

Losing a good knife that was both expensive and has sentimental value. Last winter I had a William Henry clipped to my pocket and could not find it anywhere for weeks. I thought for sure it was lost. Then I found it hanging on a cord on my jacket. The WH clip must have gotten attached to the cord when I was taking it off the jacket. I felt really bad when I thought I had lost it. I spent hours in the house, garage, basement, car, etc looking for the knife. I found it hanging on the cord when I throw the jacket on quickly and the knife stretched the cord hitting the wall. I do however still carry it because its a great knife that I really like to carry. I have re-doubled my efforts to make sure it is well clipped and goes right back in the pocket after using it.

You certainly do not live in NY State. We just had sweeping draconian gun laws put into effect. It cost me hundreds of dollars to make my once legal guns, then illegal guns, legal again. Had to buy more pistol magazines of only 10rds & can only have 7 rds in it at any time, had to buy a non-pistol griped stock for my HUNTING shotgun, & traded in my SOCOM II on a Savage bolt-action Model 10 FCP-k w/Leupold 4.5x14x50 Mark 4 w/ill TMR reticle. I refuse to register my long guns. Now they are legal again & i do not have to register them.....................yet.

JMHO but if worried that the lock will fail or break the knife, you are most certainly carrying the wrong knife. Bring enough knife. Fixed blade will cure one of those issues. "Strong like bull" will cure the other. A question i always ask myself before i buy is "would i trust my life to this knife?" If the answer is no, then i pass. YMMV.

Losing one of them, and my wife finding out that these "knives im buying for friends" are really all mine
