Cruise the graveyard of gas fired water heaters behind a plumbers shop that installs them.

Talk to them and get the blower fans off for free.

I used a 12 volt inflator for my forge. I can change the tips to change the volume of air or I can block of the intake to adjust it aswell. I actually built it today so I havent had much time to play with it. All I can tell you is you cant forge weld with briquetts...I knew this but since i had some laying around so I gave it a shot. it easilly gets hot enough to work but I need to make/ buy some chunk charcoal to get my temps up.

ebay and graingers.com

i found and others may disagree but i didnt need near as much air for coal as i did for gas. a 60cfm blower worked great for coal but was a little weak for gas

Was kind of curious about this stuff as well just with gas. Was looking at those 100cfm inline ducting blowers. Not sure if they have enough umph though but they are really cheap (@25 or so on ebay).

I heat treated and/or forged about 75 blades using a 110v air mattress pump blowing air in a tuyere under a pile of neatly arranged bricks. Not saying it's the best, but that it can work.

as long as you can get it connected and control the air flow through a gate valve and on and off switch should work

My first forge was coal fired out of a truck brake drum. I had done a bathroom remodel job and salvaged the bathroom exhaust fan and this is what I used for the blower. You should be able to pick up the cheapest exhaust fan at several of the big stores for less than 20 bucks. They run quit and will supply plenty of air for your coal forge without breaking your wallet. This was 19 years ago and I'm still using exhaust fans for my forge blowers.

I use a bathroom exhaust fan, which has a convenient 2.5 inch round port for my flex duct. I plumb that into my T... Works like a charm.

I use a $10 hair drier for my charcoal forge. Even on the low setting, it was too much air, so I had to poke some extra holes in the tuyre before it goes into the forge. I use a soup can and duct tape as a reducer.
