What is your dullest knife in your collection?

Hands down my country cousin from queen. Came dull, haven't reprofiled it yet. Still dull. Next in line is my benchmades, all came dull. Some I've reprofiled and sharpened. Others I haven't gotten to yet.

I have an original Benchmade mini stryker that I can barely get cardboard slicing sharp. I don't know what steel it is but I've tried bench stones, sharp maker and lansky without successful results. I use the same sharpeners on all my other knives and can split hairs when I'm done. All I can think of is I don't know how to properly sharpen a tanto blade. Very pointy, but that's my dullest edge.

So? What which one would it be? Whether it be from poor maintenance or maybe just the blades geometry, I would say mine is my Svord Peasant knife.

all of my knives are sharp, if i have a problem with a knife's edge, i change it.

i had some free time one afternoon, i sorted my svord peasants geometry out, here is a pic i took while i was "correcting" it:

yours looks pretty nice. mine still has the black all over the blade. the grind is horrible and the edge is going to take a lottt of work to get it to the way i want it.

This miracle of modern cutlery is probably the dullest knife I own. It was included in a gift basket received years ago. While I'm fairly certain it was intended to cut a cheese log, it struggles with anything harder than warm butter.

thanks. if i remember correctly, i used a scotch brite pad and some emery buffing compound (and a dot of mineral oil) to get all the black off the blade. then i used my stones to flatten and shape the blade.

p.s. i blunted the edge and tip of the blade before working on it to lessen the chance of cutting myself while working on it.

None of my knives are dull now. The dullest knife I have ever purchased was a snakeskin Busse Satin Jack TAC. I actually think they forgot to sharpen it. It was less sharp then a dull butter knife. They offered to sharpen it but I said I could do it my self.

The dullest knife at my house is not really "mine," but rather, "ours." It is a small Victorinox paring knife that my wife loves and I mostly avoid using. Whenever I do sharpen it she cuts herself, despite warnings. It gets sharp but does not hold an edge very well, and gets abused. However, it is so thin that it can power through stuff even when dull.

I kinda take ride in having all my knives sharp

a blunt knife to me is one I just havent got around to putting right yet .

Lan-Cay M11 EOD Knife. It's kind of a cool souvenir, but not much of a knife. Here's a picture of the bevel as it was issued to me, still covered in cosmoline.

What a guilt trip!

You made me finally re-sharpen my first ZT-0551. It finally got to the point where it would no longer cut strips of paper. It took longer to find my Sharpmaker than it did to re-sharpen it! I would rate it's ElMax as close to m390 in ease - a bit better than S30V in both normal use retention and ease of sharpening. Since I got that Spydie Sharpmaker, I just don't have dull knives.

I had a Queen City teardrop jack that came butter knife dull, and very uneven grinds as well. You could draw the edge across your skin and not cut yourself with it.

Fortunately, it had good 1095 blades and rebeveled and sharpened up very nicely.

I have a few old clunkers kicking around the shop and toolbox that I use for non knife tasks such as applying tar, scraping, prying and such. Dull ugly looking things, but do the job suited for junk knives.

I've sharpened pretty much all my knives recently, with the exception of a bread knife and my balisongs. Not sure how I feel about doing tricks with a razor sharp balisong :D

My Scrap yard War Dog I don't know if it's the fact that it has the edge geometry of a piece of rebar or it's my inability to sharpen infi but I have been pretty let down by this knife.

I agree, Jimmy, it's right up there with D2 for being a PITA to sharpen. And yeah, I think the edge geometry has a lot to do with it. Diamond stones help a lot, though.
