probably been a thread on this before but here goes. When all said and done what is the pattern that you fall-back on? My personal preference is for the opinel knives, something about the spartan simplicity and thin blades just appeals to me. I know many have a preference for the stockman pattern but in a world were there appears to be a surfeit of knife patterns which do you find the most appealing? Pictures appreciated.

Fall back from what? I'm not sure I quite understand the question.

My daily carry, never without it ever since I bought it last year, has been a Victorinox Alox Cadet. So I guess that's a variety of camp knife.

I frequently carry something else as well, since the Cadet is so light and flat that it vanishes in my pocket. That "other" knife was a 2-blade Jack for the first part of the year (Case Small Texas Jack), and recently has been a 3-blade stockman (Buck 303). Not sure if that answers your question.

When I'm unsure of what to carry or what I need for the day, I bring my Case Sodbuster Jr or my GEC Bull Nose.

My favorite traditional pattern...I wish I could give a solid answer, but I've just put my foot in the water. So far I think I like a "half congress" or two bladed congress pattern, even though I only have one with three blades. I really need a nice small secondary blade.
For my own amusement, here's a quick list of the patterns I've tried:
Tiny trapper
Congress
equal end jack
easy open barlow
moose
muskrat
Norfolk
stockman
doctor's knife

I'm trying to expand my collection with a variety of patterns so I'm keeping an eye on the responses here.

Love the Stockman but Pioneers, Farmers, Soldiers, Electricians.....SAKs in general, are my fallback patterns.

I carry a traditional for class and emotion and fallback to an SAK and fixed blade when the going gets dirty.

Not a pattern per se, but I carry a single blade most of the time.

Single blade trapper or sodbuster, I also like single spring muskrats with Turkish clip blades.

Gosh anymore these days its my #66 "Calf Roper" Stockman if I had to pick ONE. The Barlow is a very, very close second. This is a tough choice!

If nothing else catches my eye when picking the knife for the day, a stockman is what I grab.

Of course that leads to its own decision making process...

Stockman or secondly, a two-blade jack for me. I don't often carry single-blades anymore, as I find so many uses for a sheepfoot or coping secondary.
