what is your fall back pattern?

Ah ok, ha! It looked like the remnants of jigging that was nearly gone in the pic. A well-loved companion though it is. I always admire someone who knows what they like and sticks with it.

In my own carry situation i'm honing my personal preferences and have experimented with about a dozen different knives by now. More and more I've whittled my line-up down to just a few. That quest for "the One" ("Pair" is more likely) is my goal. The Stockman is growing on me more and more and the Peanut is a perfect #2 for me. I may be getting close... :)

My most-carried knife is definitely a SAK Executive. Since around '99 or so. No matter what else I may carry, it's always in my Rf pocket. As a kid, in my pre-SAK days (1970s), my fave pattern was the medium stockman, and for non-SAK slipjoints, it still is.

I love the Alox SAKs, but I recently got a new SAK Spartan at Wallyworld, and am also carrying it in the lower left cargo pocket next to my wallet. I chose to carry it over one of my Soldiers and Pioneers because I'm using the corkscrew to hold the eyeglasses screwdriver. In the '80s and '90s, I carried an older-style Spartan as my only knife for ten years, overseas and back in the States, before the knife bug bit me again.

I've ordered a Case yellow Delrin medium stockman in SS, so when that comes, I might see how/if that enters the rotation as well.

I think my most carried pattern would be a 58 mm SAK, which has varied including a Classic, Manager, and SwissBianco Alox Rambler. More traditional slip joints are something I got into relatively recently, but I think that a 3.5" pen knife with clip main and pen secondary is what I like most (currently GEC 66 calf roper slim).

One of the earliest patterns I carried (a Case) and that is still my 'fall back' pattern is a two-blade trapper. There are many patterns I love, but this one always feels like a classic in my pocket.

In the 1950s my faverate knife was a Case Texas Toothpick, now after many years and many knives my faverate is a Laguiole, which I consider a fancy Texas Toothpick.

Jim,

Let us know how u like that Med Stockman when it arrives (and pics of course) :)

Hi, arizonaranchman.

I hope to one day post pics. Believe it or not, I don't know how to! And I only have an ipad...maybe there is a way with it, though. I will definitely comment on it when it comes.

If nothing else catches my eye when picking the knife for the day, a stockman is what I grab.

Of course that leads to its own decision making process...
