Oh wait, did you mean a technique I can actually do? :S

Current favorite of mine is a vertical quick draw. In the sheath vertically on the right waist with the bali with its tip up. Grip it with normal grip, draw it, flip the handle from down front to back up. Preparing the blade open backside it needs less room than usual opening.

Same technique can be applied to cross draw, but I don't do the technique recently after I made a deep cut by mistake on my right middle finger joint. Ouch!

i like to do a basic windmill opening with a pass right in the middle of it.

I like the latch drop. No..not too flashy, but exposes the blade in rapid fashion. Another favorite is the forward drop & catch opening and closing.

Not too flashy but my very favorite is a simple drop and catch openning.

Not sure of the terminology but I also like a single back, helicopter openning.

Like to keep the closing simple for the most part with a drop and catch closing.

Be well,

Sabo

O do a little thing I call "Visualize Whirling Blades". The part I like the best about it is passing the knife across the back of my hand.

I'm very much into what I call "transitional manipulations," those openings or closings which begin in one grip and end in another. But, it has to be an opening or closing. For example, if you're in a forward grip, it's not enough to simply rotate the knife in your hand to get to a reverse grip. You can do that with any fixed blade. I'm looking for grip transitions that exploite the unique characteristics of the balisong. I have a toss-and-catch aerial in which I toss the knife out of a forward grip and catch it in a reverse grip. I love it.

I like hand exchanges too.

I like things that are very smooth and flowing. Clay, for example, likes stuff that's very rythmic and precussive. It's just two different styles. Clay is incredible with his syncopated stuff. But, I like to be more flowing. I think I'm a little country and Clay's a little rock-and-roll.

Every balisong artist develops a personal style that reflects a lot about you.

For me, half of what I do has no name. A lot of what I do just happens then and there and might never happen again. I just let the knife sort of go where it wants to . It's become quite relaxing to not worry about specific techniques and just let the knife flow. "Steel turns to water" is what I sometimes say as the knife flows around my hands.

My favourite opening is the Latch drop, that was before I got the BM42 with the bridge that keeps the latch out of the way of the blade, now I like the regular double flip opening, but for removal from the sheath the latch opening is about the fastest.

I like twirling. I also have a technique I "invented" right after I got my first bali. It's really simple - I'm sure many of you use it subcontiously. It starts out sorta like the basic windmill (holding on to the safe handle). Just as the bite handle flies away you do kind of a screwdriver manipulation, rotating the safe handle 180° clockwise (seen from above, right hand) and catching the bite handle. Voila!
Generally I tend to avoid ricocheting the handles and blade off my hands and finger when possible. Takes a bit more wristwork (you have to wave your hand about quite a bit to do the basic vertical opening wihout ricocheting a single time), but suits me better. Silences the techniques a bit too.

yep yep.. now I have to go to Clay's site and try out somehitng new.

Take care!

Thanx LockStock.

I wanted to put up a cover page that would allow you get to almost anywhere on the site. And I wanted it to look different from the rest of the site

I played around a little and came up with what you see. Simple but effective.

...... and you gotta love the way the eyes follow the mouse pointer.
