What is YOUR favorite blade steel?

K390. It's an amazing steel as heat treated by Phil Wilson. It just cuts and cuts. Of course the geometry only helps, but I'm impressed.

I prefer 10XX or Bucks 420HC and the german 440C is also a good steel. I prefer steels, that take a razorsharp edge, it doesn´t matter if I have to sharpen the knife more often.

Kind regards

AUS 6!!!!

just kidding...

I really like my M390 blades, but quite honestly, I prefer to use VG-10 and maintain a good working edge with the sharp-maker.

So far M390 is my favorite. It just stays sharp forever. Noticeably longer than S30v or Vg10 from my experience.

I'm still looking forward to trying CPM 3v in my new Tuff, and I need to get something in S90v.

I don't have much experience with different steels but from what I seen S30V seems to be the perfect compromise and balance especially for the price.

Guess I'm just old fashioned - like AUS-8A, decent edge retention and easy to sharpen in the field. Yes I do have newer steels such as S30V and VG 10 as well as my newest acquisition - a Manix2 with CTS BD-1.

VG-10! I love it. I can maintain it fairly consistently and gives me a very satisfying edge. Very corrosion resistant from my experience.

Oh gee, Well my Will Zermeno pointman has CPM 154 and that kills!

Duratech 20cv, CTS-XHP, and s30v with BOS heat treat.

1: 154CM

2: S30V/S35V

3: VG-10.

It depends on the purpose of the knife for which steel I favor, but I tend towards these the most. Probably because they hold an edge well and resist corrosion.
