Queen.

I also like S&M and Northwoods, but since they are Queen made, or at least in part Queen made, I count that as Queen in a "one choice only" poll.

I like the greater F&F attention to detail of S&M, but since they are mostly 420HC I don't buy them. They don't make nearly enough knife choices in 1095 or ATS34 IMHO. I have a S&M Gen. #2 Harness Jack in 1095 that I really love, but again, not enough choices in 1095.

I also have a Northwoods Senator in Sambar Stag that is my favorite knife and that I promised my son when he makes Eagle Scout. It is fantastic. I didn't choose Northwoods, though, because while some of their work is exceptional, they let a lot of QC problems out the door in my experience.

I guess I had to go with Case.

A combination of longevity, quality, customer service, and plain old value for money spent.

Of course I'm biased, Shirley was such a great person to deal with.

I don't have a favorite. I can think of a half dozen or so companies and each is good at what it does. So which knife company I look at depends on what I want the knife to do and how much I want to pay for it.

I put down Queen. Having only owned one and seeking more, it seems the dollar to quality can't be challenged.I have a Canal Stret half moom trapper that is very nice. neNeck and neck with queen. I would like to own a GEC one day, but not before a Schatt, which is Queens top of the line. although they don't offer much in carbon. Cases are very good quality, but I don't like how they tumble the blades on the new models. I prefer sharp crisp tangs. Older Cases, a different story. I was thinking of doing a thread like this. Thanks.

Hmmm sounds pretty good so far guys. Queens do seem to be a great deal along with Case. Great knife BTW navihawk.

In my opinion, the use of D2 steel (on top of the outstanding F&F) puts Queen way above the rest.

I go for CASE due to range and having an enviable heritage.
However, Böker and Queen are not far behind,GEC too, all fine marques.

I've only experience with Case, Schrade, Camillus and Queen. I went with Queen, just better knives overall from my experience.

I have several favorites from Queen, Case, and Schatt & Morgan.

Canal Street would be right up there but I really do not like the handle shield.
(The knives, though, are excellent.)

Boker makes some fine knives for the money, but no particular model really "grabs" me.

Queen. D2 and that Amber Carved Stag. Love it. I also own two Country Cousins. But the D2 makes the difference for me.

I've had great experiences with case and GEC. Better track records than with Queen in regards to fit and finish. But Queen's Queen City and Queen City Cutlery Classics are great. Not to mention all the great choices in the Amber Bone/D2 line. They make really nice patterns that I just love to use and they come in either D2 or 1095 which are two of my favorite steels. So I voted Queen.

No arguments here... Even though the current production seems to be getting good reviews for overall quality, I prefer earlier production models.

I like the fact that they use D2, but I don't like the idea that they can't send out a knife with an edge on it.... IMHO its totally inexcusable.

I would probably pick up a Queen, but I refuse to until they can up their standards. Unless its a 1095 version.. Granted, that seems to be the only complaint with Queens that we read about. Everything else seems to be good YMMV

I saw in another post here that the D2 only appears to be dull when felt by the fingers. Unless mine was the exception, the thing is crazy sharp.I just did the paper test no problem and I was using it last week to cut through cardboard like butter, and yet when I feel the edge it doesn't appear sharp like Case out of the box.
338375, you should try a Queen in curly maple. They're cheap enough. Case was always my #1 choice. Come to the dark side Luke.

I have to be honest, I've never tried a Queen in D2, so I have just based my opinion on others that have them.
I have always wondered though, how a company that builds a nice knife would send out a product that almost always had a bad edge..
Even if they did have a spell where they had problems, I always assumed they would be quick to remedy the problem.

Heck if it cuts good, thats the true test

I may have to give one a spin sometime down the road. I'm to busy buyin sheath knives right now :D

Well I voted for the venerable old Schrade;)::thumbup: Not as flashy as some of the Co.s listed but working mans knives especially the Old timer line!!! Now Charlie has some DANDY older Schrade Cut Co era knives ( me a couple) and I will say that I am biased:p and own several brands listed :D BUT I Will guarantee that there are none better built OR nicer to look at than the old SCC!!!!;):D:p
