I was wondering what everyone's favorite Buck knife is.

For me it's the 110 series, particularly the 110 Master Series knife followed by the 110 NE which is a walnut scale versionof the old 110model with nickel silver bolsters.

What is your favorite Buck knife and why?

Hey Jeff, which is your favorite Buck knife? Sorry to put you on the spot!

I love my Odyssey
Very smooth opening, scary sharp and for a reasonable price. Oh I forgot to mention the cool looks.

The basic 110 or 112 with no finger grooves. I like the leather sheaths and the nylon ones with the snap on them too.

I have two favorites, one old and one new. The old is a #107, a small fixed blade with a skinning style sweep to the blade, but not so much that hampers its use as a general utility tool. I think the name was the "personal", but the current catalog shows a different handle and (I think) a different model #. Mine has micarta looking scales and is very slim and easy to use. I've cleaned too many fish to count with it over the years and it has held up very well. It came with a pouch sheath that I prefer over the type that Buck uses on many of their other sheath knives.
The new favorite is the large Mentor fixed blade, which I only recently bought. It is a very well designed knife and very ergonomic for me. The sheath is the only drawback(see my Mentor sheath thread).
I would love to see Buck use the BG42 for this knife; then it would be damn near perfect.

Brian, the Buck your refering to is the 118. My wife got me one for Christmas 23yrs ago and I still have it and its a great knife.
I also like my Buck Zipper with the wood handle. It was the first knife with a gut hook that really worked.

Well Mick, mine clearly says 107 stamped on the blade. Now, I have probably got the name wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, but the last time I checked out the Buck website, this was not to be found, maybe they changed the name/model # ?

First choice: Buck 112 Ranger (No knife has ever fit my hand better).
Second choice: The Trapper (Takes an edge that even scares me).

For me its the 110, 119, and the 102 and maybe the 500.
I just got the new 1999 catalog and am really looking forward to the fixed blade "Big Sky"...Very nice!! Cant wait! also the new 475DT & 192DP "Deer Tracks"

I love the partially serrated Tanto Nighthawk. The grip is incredible and during the Shot Show when the regular line came out I told Chuck a Tanto version would be a logical next step. Then I talked to several people in production and design. Seems like a few voices make a big difference.

ps- Anyone know anywhere that any of the Master Series is still in stock?

That first (and only?) disassemblable 110 titanium (can't remember the exact model #) remains my favorite. It came w/a removable, and rather beefy, belt clip and the take down allen wrench attached to the lanyard ring. It was a design ahead of its time when the Spyderco Police and various Al Mars were the only other production knives in a similar but more expensive niche. Since the knife can be take down and its dimensions are more or less #110, it would be nice to obtain a BG42 blade for one.

One of my early favorites was the Esquire with maroon linen micarta scales, I think its in a old tool box somewhere. I also carried a 426 synthetic folding hunter for a long time befor all the "tactical folders" came out. I superglued some brass stock on the blade so I open it one handled. That is still my favorite but the Cold Steel Voyager rides the pocket much better. I also picked up a beat up 120 General and Frontiersman at a gun show several years ago. After cleaning them up and putting a new handle on the Frontiersman, both get used with some regularity. - Brian

My all-time favorite Buck is the first one I bought: the Model 105, with a five inch fixed blade. I always thought of the blade design and steel as just "okay," but the handle ergonomics were (and are, I still have it) fantastic! I've bought and sold a lot of custom knives since the 105 that hold a good edge, but aren't as comfortable and confidence-inspiring to use. I would buy a "Master's" series version.

I own an Esquire, just like Schlager's, and I still have it. It's a good-enough knife, but I don't love it: the blade/handle ratio is way off. It looks as if there's room in the handle for almost another half inch of blade.
In general, I buy knives that give me the most blade a maker can cram into any handle size.

There was a 107 and a 118 both. The 107 was a smaller paring style with a curved blade and backbone, and the 118 was a straight backbone ala the 119 series.
I'll verify shapes through an old catalog. Correct me if I'm wrong on the shape/style guys, it's been awhile...

My favorite is my 110. Strong and solid with enough heft to inspire confidence.

Everybody needs to own the grandaddy of locking folders.

My favorite buck knife is by far the INTREPID. This is one tough customer. I think it will do well against the Best that Sog, Katz and Junglee can muster. If it came in an even tougher steel it would clean house.

You nailed it, Jeff. My 107 has a pronounced sweep to the blade but is still within "large" paring knife parameters. So, I guess there were two "personals". Huh, who'da guessed. Thanks.

My buck knives are #650 nighthawk,#653 tanto,#503,and #110.They are very good.
#650 is like custom knife for me.It is complately fit on my hand both fighting grip and normal use,It have very tough blade.Cheap price allow hard use.
As soon as Knife Magazin Japan carried #650's advertisement,I call my favorit knife syop for advance order.
#503 is light, tough, and sharp. It's length is 61mm,as after some whet it come under 60mm which is legally carried in Japan.

Now,I'm very looking forward to new OICW rifle's bayonet will dicide Buck knives again, and put it on sale.
