Simple question: What is your favorite Gransfors Bruks and why? I'm thinking of getting one and not sure what would be best. I've gotten by with large knives or an Estwing hatchet for my wilderness use. So I'm curious which of these people like and for what uses.

I have the mini and really like it. I've made bowdrill fire sets and figure four traps with it.

i have the wildlife hatchet.. i love it... it's the perfect size for most camp chores..

i do want one o fthe mini's... hopefully i'll get one soon...:o

I got a 25" gransfors on its way, the 24" itis oxhead axe was the perfect size for a compact yet fully functional axe so I hope this will fit the bill as well as I think it will.

Small Forest Axe, though I'm itchin' to try the Scandi.

Small Forest Axe. The smaller axes/hatchets are handy, but the small FA does a lot more work in a lot less time, and I never notice the difference on a pack-certainly not in the toolbox.
The Scandinavian Forest Axe is really my "favorite", but I don't think I've actually used it more than once or twice. I made the edge a little steeper on the small, so it could handle more abuse, and end up grabbing it every time.
The Scandinavian doesn't do much except shave an occasional hair, and chop a piece of paper cleanly in half every now and then when I show it to someone.
One of these days I'm going to get one of GB's splitting mauls...

I've got the small splitting maul. I love it, but I hate to use it :-)
They cost sooo much, I don't even want to take the chance to ding it up.
Heck, I bought a sheet of plywood to place under my wood in case I chop straight through it so I don't hit the concrete. I'm very careful with it!!! My little baby I guess. I've got a competition axe that was made for me by Carson Bosworth. I got that 6 years ago and have yet to use it. Funny story about it though, I didn't know about "sharp" back then.
I removed the leather sheath and was going to spray the head down with some oil.
The nozzel of the oil was cracked and so when I sprayed, some shot back at me close to my eye. Instintively I reached for my face, but that hand just touched the axe head and
I sliced it good. Now, I grabbed that wound with my other hand (axe hand) and I cut that hand again. I've learned a lot since then......mostly about sharpness and am now very careful. Oh well....the ER doctors had a really good hoot about it :-)

The Scandanavian model is by far my favourite, it has some serious chopping power and is always my first choise when going camping from the boat or to a fixed location, although the SFA is a grat all rounder if you need to carry it, and much easier on the arm for carving and stuff. I also have the double headed monster, but have only used it once or twice so far.

I have the Small forest axe and the Mini. I prefer the mini for small crafts as it will make quick work while whittling spoons and utensils. I've been planning on getting the Scandinavian Forest Axe as it has more heft and a longer handle.

Overall, the GB lineup is excellent. I just wish they were cheaper and I'd have them all. Or, I could be not as cheap and just buy them all!

Not owning any Granfors Bruks I can't offer any advice on selection. But for some reason, whenever I see high quality axes like these I can't help but imagine going back in time and giving a guy like Oetzi one of them. I just imagine this bewilderment at the strange material and shaping of the axe head giving way to wonderment and joy as he swung it into a tree and the chips started flying.

This is another question that is completely dependant on task.

Every GB is made to be a favorite for what its designed for. I own two, and nothing else compares.

For the stuff I do the Wildlife is best. It's really a fantastic chopper. The only downside is it is really too big for backpacking. I mean I'd take it if it was dead winter and I really needed the fire but otherwise no.

The Hunter is nice but for me the handle is too long enough to get the control I get on the Wildlife but not long enough to really wail with it.

The Double bit is nice but the bevels are steeper and it has a tendency to glance and is very heavy.

The mini is super light and you can choke up on it and use it as a knife. Also because it is so short you can use it in close quarters. I re cleared a trail thru thick spruce with it where dead branches had obscured the trail. But the mini is not a heavy chopper.

I wold like to see GB add another hatchet. I'd like to see one with 12" OAL a 3" bit that weighs about 18 to 20 oz.

I like the Forrest Axe (not the small, although they are wonderful) and the Mini the best.

I have the Small Forest Axe, and so far its been great.

I would like to get the Wildlife next as I feel that it could be used for everything from preparing food to whittling a child's toy whereas the SFA is more of an outright wood chopper.

They are fantastic axes and well worth the $$$ (and I paid a fairly brutal shipping cost to get mine out here).
