This is your excuse to go get a food scale adn weigh your neck knives, I know you have been dying to. Well, which is your favorite, and how many ounces is it (knife only please)?

Part 2 of question

Would you prefer that it was a little heavier, a little lighter, or is it just right?

Part 3 of question

What do you consider the perfect weight for a neck knife?

I have a Mission MPU. I don't really like it though. This is actually one of the few knives that I possibly wouldn't buy again.

It's too thick & heavy (4.3 oz.) and, the Kydex sheath is pretty bulky. I've never actually worn it as a neck knife (mostly b/c of the bulkiness). The knife makes a bad non-neck knife so I never really use it.

I'm in the market for a "real" neck knife. But I haven't seen any that I really like so I'm not holding my breathe. I don't really know what an ideal weight for a neck knife is but, 4.3 oz. is "weigh" (sorry, i couldn't resist

) too heavy.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

Emerson LaGriffe
REKAT Fang
440C Custom by Lowell Bray. The heaviest of the three. From 3/16" x 1 1/4" stock.
There are plenty of others, but these are my faves.
No weights available. Sorry.
The lightweight of the REKAT and Emerson are ideal. 1/8" stock is best for a NK IMO.

So, what IS the speed of dark?

For daily carry it is now the Emerson La Griffe. Light, compact and extremely functional in its purpose. Nuff said!

PS- my La Griffe wasn' t nice to me a few days ago when I was executing some draw, parry and thrust exercises. My hands crossed at a most inopportune time and the results were a wedge of skin from my middle finger flying away at the imaginary target! Still throbbing...

My Livesay Woo is my favorite, but I do carry an ATS34 Hobbit Fang quite often also.

I don't know how much either of them weigh, but the Woo is the heavier of the two.

Truthfully, weight is not a primary consideration for me with a neck knife. Pimary reason being that I rarely wear a neck knife around my neck, except when I am fishing.

I look for size, a good grip and a good multipurpose sheath. Generally, I have a neck knife to fit in my pants or jacket pocket, or to hang upside down in my jacket's inner breast pocket.

I don't mind the MPU (with a new sheath) because it has a very good gripping handle. But if weight and grip are of consideration, I found the Falkniven WMI good in both regards. Of course, I had to get another sheath make for it. Even with the new kydex sheath option offered by Falkniven, I would still get a sheath made because the factory one lacks true multicarry design.

Pat Crawford's Kasper Neck Knife. Weight is of little importance to me, as long as it's under 4 oz.

I like the KNK for it's usefullness as a utility knife, but mainly because it's a full size blade that is, with the kydex sheath, only 1/4" thick.

REKAT fang. Have both steels, like the ats34 better. Just the right size and weight. The chain pulls chest hairs, so use cord instead.
MY brother in law has a small Crawford fixed blade for a neck knife that is probably the nicest one I have ever seen.

What? Another knife? Don't you have enough of those things already?
How many does one person need?
And just what are you going to do with this one that you can't do with the others?
What is the purpose of all these knives anyhow??

My favorite is also my Livesay WOO. It weighs about 3 3/4 ounces, and is the absolute perfect neck knife matching the preformance of and in some cases outpreforming much more expensive knives.

I was never one for Neck Knives, but lately I've seen some really nice models, so I might have to get one

The impossible I can do right away, miracles take a little longer.

Steve Corkum Shobu - great little Japanese style Tanto - super hamon - 3" blade - ray skin handle with nice traditional cord wrap - nice sheath. Handle gives great purchase while not being obtrusive - weight about 3 oz.

Weight is not major concern below 4-5 oz.

Lynn, I have several that I like and carry. The Lil Blue @ 2.1 oz.,Lil Blue II @ 1.6 oz., and the Lil Rank with 3 1/2" blade and bone handle @ 2.3 oz. I like a light weight knife for a neck knife and every thing I make would probably weigh less than 3 oz. unless it was a special order. Ray Kirk http://www.tah-usa.net/raker
