What is your favorite peanut?

I am looking at the Case peanuts and I am stumped as to which I should get. I want one in CV so that narrows it down pretty good, but I could be convinced to go SS if the handle material is worth it. I really like the way the damascus peanut looks, but it is a little pricey at the moment and I want to test the pattern first.I am partial to bone, but that red bone looks a little bright and that is the only one in CV. How scratch resistant is the composition handles? It will be a user but I like the feel of smooth handles so scratches are a bad thing. So steel aside, what is your favorite handle material for the peanut. And if you were looking at the CV line which would you choose?

You cant beat the damascus as far as looks go, so if your looking for pocket jewelry consider it.
I would go either with a jigged bone cv or with the yellow handled cv.
As you can see HERE
The only cv's they offer are:
- the YELLOW SYNTHETIC PEANUT
- the DARK RED BONE PEANUT (which you dont like)
- the CHESTNUT PEACHSEED JIGGED BONE PEANUT

My favorite case line is the Bonestag, but they dont offer the cv peanut with it.
Since to me steel (carbon) is more important in a a work knife I would settle on the yellow synthetic cv.

just my 2ct.

I don't know if I like the red bone or not. I like dark bone and the red looks bright in the picure but it is hard to tell. I love that chestnut bone but for that price I would get the damascus. I want a user, not pocket jewlery but I want it to look good. Is it too much to ask to have both?:) If anyone has the red bone, can you tell me how dark it is? I really wish Case made a pocket worn peanut in CV.

Aw heck, go on and get which ever one turns you on at first glance on a gut level. If you're so inclined, get the damascus and use it. Life is shorter than we think. One day we wake up and 30, even 40 years have passed and we've become an old fart with regrets. If I can give you just one piece of advise, enjoy yourself now, and live it up. Use a beautifull damascus peanut if you want. As long as you're not cutting your familys grocery budjet short and nobody is getting hurt exept for your piggy bank, get both.

Life is now. Its okay to indulge a little now and then.

Many, many years from now, you will have lots of memories in those knives that you give to your children and grandchildren. Make sure you will have enough to go around.:D

I don't think I will have to worry about running out of knives any time soon. I wanted to try the pattern first before I put the money in for a damascus peanut. If I like it, I will probably buy it. It does look very good. Will the damascus blades rust faster than the CV?

There aren't many choices in the CV peanuts, but the red bone is much nicer than the yellow plastic. I don't think the red is too dark, in fact it's a bit bright for my taste; I would have prefered a lower-tone amber like the Schatt and Morgan peanuts.

My favorite is my damascus peanut with amber bone. I have it in my pocket almost every day.

I think Shepard Hills (link above) also has a few peanuts with CV blades with bone handles.

I just got both the yellow and red bone CV peanuts this week. I think the red bone is fine but I also have a CV Moose in red bone too.
I have always liked the yellow handles; I collect users only.
Man a peanut really knows how to ride comfortably in you pocket.

My fave. for a while now is a Schrade Old Timer 12OT Pal. At least I believe it's a peanut.:)

JackKnife, You better go ahead and get one as fast as you can they are going fast. Send me a PM and I will send you a Link..

Sorry my source has dried up. I don't have a clue now

I have the pocket worn mini trapper in ss and am very pleased with it. I got it 8 years ago or so back before I knew about such things as ss vs cv. I have since bought a couple yellow handled cv's. I like them all but my cv's are more utility looking. Since you're set on a Peanut I'd get the SS and enjoy.

When the "experiment is over, I am going to get myself a damascus peanut. Cross my heart, to myself.:)

I just recently picked up a Case single blade damascus coke bottle with stag handles. After a week long soak in mineral oil the stag looks great again. The blade has a couple of scratches and some staining that I'm getting off slowly. It was rescued from an old coffee can with a couple of old junkers at a flea market. :D

I might do the same. Damascus Peanut. Ooohhh.........!

The idle thought goes through my mind, wondering if I drove up there and held a gun on somebdy, could I get a damascus peanut with some very nicely ridged stag? Something worthy of Sheffield.

Or even some nice pearl. I wish I could remember who the forums member was that had a pic of the pearl peanut his daughter carries on a keyring. (shudder, shudder.)

I guess in my mind, the peanut is a prime piece of pocket jewlery a man could have. Why not live it up and have a really nice one.

I got a redbone peanut for my son and myself two months ago. I put mineral oil on mine every couple of weeks, and it is now [EDIT] significantly darker than my son's. I'm toying with the idea of getting some dark red leather dye to make it even darker, as an experiment. The dark read looks really nice against the dark grey of the patina I've been creating by cutting lots of fruits and veggies.

My "holy grail" Case would be a Peanut in Damascus with stag scales. I could probably hold out until forever for that combination. I don't NEED another knife so I could hold out, but if it were ever available, I would snap it up immediately.

Get what speaks to your heart. Don't sweat using a nice knife. I treasure my grandpa's used Schrade 80T that I inherited upon his death, than I would have a knife that he kept pristine in a box. Using a knife puts your character and marks on it, and you pass that as much as the tool itself to the next generation.

I would hate for you guys to stray from the Experiment or to miss out on the damascus peanuts, so clearly the best thing is for you to buy damascus peanuts immediately and then send them to me to "hold onto" for you until next January.;)

As for my favorite peanut, I have the stainless amber bone version. I usually prefer carbon blades, but the amber bone looks great and there is really no significant functional difference between Tru Sharp and CV.

Mine has the added personal appeal of being an anniversary gift.

Case really hit it out of the park with the amber bone Damascus Peanut. I made mine really special by taking it with me to the UK last year. Now it's an international peanut. ;)

I believe it was sunnyD, and it had scissors on it instead of the pen blade. Beautiful knife it was.
