While my primary interest is in wood, occasionally something else will end up in my collection.
I got this from Brett Matthews at the OKCA show. Dark Brown Walrus Weiner. I mean Oosic.

The first time my wife went to a knife show with me, the first and only knife she picked up had an oosic handle. She asked the maker,"this looks exotic...what is it?" He replied," it's oosic."
She looked at me and looked at him until he said,"walrus penis!" She put it down and said she was heading to wash her hands. She's never gone to another knife show.

P. McKinley- Wow I wish I had your neighbors those are some amazing pieces. I always try to keep my eye's open no matter where i am but I can say that I have never snagged any that nice.

Thanks to this thread something really wonderful has re-appeared.
Last night, I went out to the shop to get some Saya wood ( I use alder, which is very much like Honokai) from the drying rack. I have a vented box out there where I keep wood blocks that I want to get really dry before stabilizing. Some spend years in the box. All of a sudden I recalled a spectacular 12X4X1" piece of redwood burl I had cut out of a large piece of burl. I had the rest stabilized years ago, but wanted this piece dead dry...and it surely is by now. It has flames all through it that are chatoyant. The photo shows about 10% of how stunning the wood actually looks like. I am going to sand it smooth this afternoon and take some more shots, and box it up Monday for stabilizing.

That Hickory is really wild looking. I had never seen it before.

Stacy, Cool piece of Redwood. The figure looks a lot like a crotch feather.
I will bet it will really jump out after it is stabilized and finished.
